Two inches of clearance between the patient and a concrete stem wall. Which saw or cutter are you grabbing?
Using melons on the rebar impalement prop gives crews immediate feedback on vibration, tool torque, and heat transfer. When you have to leave the bar intact and cut the patient free, tool selection dictates patient outcome:
* Portable Bandsaw: Best option for variable speed and near-zero bar movement.
* Cutoff Wheel: Requires active cooling so heat does not travel down the rebar into the patient.
* Hydraulic Cutters: Watch for tool roll and tip reaction on round stock, especially in tight spaces.
* Reciprocating Saw: Absolute last resort. One blade snag transfers massive movement directly into the patient.
Save this for your next drill night and let us know below: does your department carry portable bandsaws on the first-due rig?
