Welcome to Spec Tool, we were established/founded in 1970 in a small garage in Walker, MI. Due to the amount of production, in 1985 we had to build a larger facility located in Sparta, MI. Since 2006, we have been operating with close to 100 employees! to house this amazing crew. Custom carbide tooling built to tolerances most shops will not touch.

We manufacture custom cutting tools for aerospace, automotive, medical, and oil and gas out of Sparta, Michigan. Carbide inserts, end mills, step drills, boring bars, reamers, specialty form tools. Precision grinding, EDM wire cutting, vacuum furnace brazing, lights-out machining. All under one roof since 1968.

Carbide tooling is what we are known for. But the work that comes through this shop goes a lot further than that.

Forging dies, gripper jaws, fixtures, one-off parts. If it needs to be precise and nobody else will touch it, it ends up here.

Someone's QC person stores tight-tolerance parts under her desk, 10 degrees warmer than the shop floor. Wonders why they're out of spec.

Metal expands. The spec doesn't care where the part was sitting.

This is a means to an end.

When you add equipment that doesn't fit under your existing overhead crane, how do you load your workpieces that weigh 1600 lbs?

A jib Crane might do it. If you're on a time crunch, you look on Facebook marketplace for something used, do a quick and dirty install, then have your 3rd party crane engineers certify it! Is it perfect? Heck no. Does it work? Yup...

Eventually, we'll get another overhead...but for now, this works just fine.

Someday you will need it. That's why engineers never throw anything away.

This fixture converts a Bridgeport into six axis capability, handling every angle a standard three axis setup can't reach. The five axis machines handle most of it now, but most isn't all.

The day that one job shows up that won't fit anywhere else, this thing will be ready.
