On October 11, 2025, Sandy City celebrated the grand opening of its new Fire Station No. 31 with a ribbon cutting, bell ringing, and a community pancake breakfast! This new deluxe, modern, two-level 30,391-square-foot facility located at 239 West off Monroe Street (9270 S.) was designed to serve as a home base for the city’s dedicated firefighters including training classrooms, living quarters for 14, 5 apparatus and ambulance bays, and parking, all for supporting faster response times, enhanced training, and future Sandy City community growth.

In collaboration with ajc architects, Meridian Engineering provided comprehensive site design and civil engineering services including topographic survey, utility extensions, grading and drainage plans, stormwater management, roadway extensions, and construction period services. Every design element was developed to ensure reliable infrastructure and seamless operations for emergency response.
We’re honored to have contributed to a project that supports those who serve and protect our community every day. Congratulations to Sandy City Fire Department and all who made this station a reality!

That is Resilient Infrastructure in Action!

This recent storm was a real-world reminder of why proactive site design matters. Meridian Engineering was honored to be part of the Deseret Peak High School project team providing site utility design for new sewer, water, and storm drain connections—along with hydrology analysis and HEC-RAS modeling of the adjacent FEMA flood channel.
When the heavy rains came, the onsite storm water piping and detention ponds worked as intended.
Do you have a project in design with flood risks? Consider flood prevention with the help from experts.

Help us Support Brad Mortensen and His Family

Our dear friend and teammate, Brad, underwent surgery on Friday, and we’re grateful it went well. Unfortunately, on Sunday evening, while being moved, Brad’s heart unexpectedly stopped. After an hour of lifesaving efforts, his heart stabilized, and he is now undergoing further testing as doctors monitor his recovery.

While we wait and hope for good news, we want to rally for Brad and his family in every way we can. We’ve set up a GoFundMe to help ease the financial burden they may be facing—from medical expenses to time away from work to heal and anything else they might need during this difficult time.

https://gofund.me/d2c94ad34

If you’re able to contribute, we encourage you to do so.
More than anything, we ask that you keep Brad and his family in your prayers and thoughts.

Brad isn’t just part of our team—he’s part of the Meridian family.

Meridian surveys at new heights in Parleys Canyon, Utah

Meridian Engineering’s field crews recently headed into the steep slopes of Parleys Canyon to perform surveying services along the I-80 corridor for UDOT Region 2. Covering approximately milepost 129.85 to 131.1, the work supports boundary analysis and a forthcoming Record of Survey (ROS) for the I-80 right-of-way, including evaluation of adjoining landowner parcels such as the gravel pit area.

This preliminary effort is essential for defining the ROW corridor, analyzing crossing agreements, and determining controlled access in preparation for potential future infrastructure improvements.

Meridian’s scope includes:
• Searching for and observing Public Land Survey System monumentation and right-of-way marker monuments
• Surveying deed-controlling evidence
• Constructing up to 20 new ROW markers along the corridor to perpetuate the I-80 alignment

Crews navigated rugged canyon slopes, dense brush, and rocky terrain—billy-goating through the landscape to complete the work. Along the way, they encountered both the challenges of steep cliffs and the rewards of scenic canyon features, including a waterfall.
The final phase will involve analyzing the ROW corridor of I-80 in conjunction with adjoining land records to prepare the official Record of Survey. The ROS will undergo UDOT QA/QC review before being filed with the Salt Lake County Surveyor’s Office, in accordance with Utah State Code 17-23-17.

Meridian Engineering Completes Fuel Station for Canyons School District

Meridian Engineering is happy to announce the completion of the fuel station for Canyons School District’s Transportation facilities located at 150 East 9300 South, Sandy, Utah. This project was designed with a focus on efficiency, safety, and long-term reliability to support the district’s transportation operations.

While working closely with CORE Architects and the Canyons School District, Meridian provided a comprehensive site design that included topographic surveying, demolition of underground tanks, and layout and grading for two new 12,000-gallon above-ground tanks. The design also incorporated fueling lanes to accommodate large vehicles, expand bus stalls and parking, new retention basin, and storm drain and piping improvements. Careful attention to grading, drainage, and erosion control ensured the facility will operate effectively in all conditions.

Beyond design, Meridian provided construction-period services, to maintain conformance with approved plans and specifications. From bid support through site visits and final punch lists, our team ensured the project was delivered with precision and quality to fuel forward employees and bus services transportation infrastructure for the district.

Meridian Engineering was honored to be part of the VCBO design team to provide full survey and civil design services for the new Sage Canyon Middle School, serving grades 7–9 in Eagle Mountain. With capacity for 1,550 students, the new school eases overcrowding at Frontier Middle School and Cedar Valley High School’s ninth grade classes.

The project involved several aspects of civil design including topographic survey, site development, subsurface utilities, bus drop-off and pick-up lanes, student safety design, site circulation, ingress and egress, parking lots, site drainage, stormwater retention, mass grading for 34-acre school site, new public water and sewer extensions, ADA ramps and pedestrian crossings, and sports fields for basketball, soccer, track and pickleball courts.

Meridian began site design with a feasibility study to provide a couple options for the potential school layout and grading plans within its rural fringe location while following an existing model also used for Frontier Middle School. The final design is the 7th rendition of the same layout with a few improvements to the model. The project included the design of two local roads providing access to Sage Canyon Middle School. Six Mile Cutoff Road was designed as a frontage road which included a horizontal design, vertical design, new city owned waterlines, storm drain collection system, curb, gutter, park strip, and sidewalk. Harmony Way was designed as a minor arterial per local city standards. A new 8” sewer mainline was installed from the south for approximately 3 miles up to a stub in Harmony Way to serve the seminary property and school. An 8-mile public sewer main was designed to serve the school and two new public roadways with new public utilities. Infrastructure design required extensive coordination with Eagle Mountain City and Alpine School District. The final campus was constructed by Westland through CMGC delivery. 22353
