121.5 ELT’s
Most 121.5 ELT manufacturers stopped making parts as new 121.5 ELT’s and the sale of new 121.5 ELTs were band by the FCC as of July 10, 2019. Title 47 chapter 1 subchapter D Pt 87, subpart F, says “ ELT‘s that operate only on frequency 121.5 MHZ will no longer be certified. The manufacture, importation, and sale of ELT‘s that only operate on frequency 121.5 MHZ is prohibited beginning July 10, 2019. Existing ELT‘s that operate only on frequency 121.5 must be operated as certified.” This means if you have a 121.5 ELT installed, you can keep it, but installing a “new one” is not allowable as it is no longer considered certified. Time to pony up and put in a 406 ELT. Its inevitable.
