Checking a strut starts with a bounce test. Push down on the vehicle and release it. The suspension should rise and stop without continued bouncing. Then inspect the strut for leaks, torn boots and broken or cracked springs. On front struts, also check for looseness, popping or other noises that could indicate a worn bearing.
