Recently, we had a boil water advisory (BWA) in our area and I found it interesting that a lot of folks don't know exactly what to make of the situation. Kentucky regulations require public water providers to announce BWAs for several situations. Complete loss of system pressure, loss of chlorine residual for extended period of time, and high turbidity levels in the water are some examples. When the BWA is issued, the provider will begin taking water samples at various locations in the water system. The samples are lab tested for presence of bacteria. When all of the samples are clear of bacteria, then the BWA can be lifted.

The main take away is this. If your water system is announcing BWAs, then they are doing things right. Well run water systems have line breaks and equipment failures all the time and sometimes they cause issues that require a BWA. When you hear that a BWA has been put in place, rest easy knowing that your water system managers are doing it right and looking out for your health and well being. They would much rather just fix the issue and no one be the wiser, but they are going to that extra effort and expense to make sure that the water is safe.

What a great event today sponsored by the Center For Rural Development and the City of Burnside. We missed the event last year but from what I am told this years event was twice a big! Thanks to Cloyd J. Bumgardener for helping to make this event a reality.

Special thanks to my friend and surveying partner Anthony Thompson for showcasing some of the drone and GPS surveying technology that help us to deliver high quality engineering projects for our clients.

We will definitely be attending this event again next year!
