The Smithfield YMCA is proud to have helped the Smithfield High School Outdoor Track Team with cross-training in the Y's pool. As always, our Health & Wellness Director, Torie Follett poured her heart and knowledge into assisting this amazing group of kids! We are incredibly excited to announce that the Smithfield YMCA has received a generous grant from The Fogarty Foundation to create our BRAND NEW Sensory & Calming Space for children in our summer camp and childcare programs with neurodiverse needs!

This space is being thoughtfully designed to provide children with a safe, supportive, and calming environment whenever they may need a sensory break, quiet time, or additional emotional support throughout the day. The room will include sensory and stimming supplies, calming lighting, flexible seating, tactile activities, fidgets, noise-reducing tools, and interactive sensory experiences designed to help children regulate, refocus, and feel comfortable and included.

The space is almost complete, and we cannot WAIT to share photos with our community soon!

What an incredible day representing the Smithfield YMCA at Y Day at the State House! 💙

We were proud to stand alongside passionate leaders and advocates, bringing amazing energy and purpose to a day centered around impact. It was especially meaningful to dive into the practical, common-sense legislation we’re supporting to strengthen out-of-school time care and better serve our families and communities.

A huge thank you to Senator David P. Tikoian and Julie Casimiro for their leadership in introducing our child care bill. We are so grateful for your commitment to Rhode Island’s children and families!

The day was made even more special as we were honored on both the House and Senate floors with a resolution celebrating Y Day at the State House and the incredible 175th anniversary of the YMCA in the United States. Thank you to Julie Casimiro and Lammis Vargas for introducing this meaningful recognition.

We are proud, grateful, and more inspired than ever to continue this important work. 💪✨
