High Torque in a Tight Space

A commercial baking equipment manufacturer came to Groschopp looking for a motor that could be used across four different applications on a bread packaging machine.

The challenges included:
• Tight space requirements
• High torque in a small package
• Duty cycles ranging from continuous operation to direction changes every second or less
• Brush life concerns in short oscillating duty cycles

Groschopp developed a custom brushless DC motor with a ten-pole, 12-slot design to deliver high torque in a compact package. New bearings helped increase the expected motor life to 50,000 hours.
