Why does HiPIMS matter?

Because coating performance is not just about adding a protective layer. It’s about applying the right coating in a way that supports the tool’s geometry, cutting edge, and application.

As part of SCT’s Tech Trifecta, we recently added the CemeCon CC800 HiPIMS system to expand our in-house coating capability.

HiPIMS uses high-power sputter technology to apply ultra-thin coating layers.

That thinness matters: on precision tools like thread mills, a coating needs to support wear resistance and heat tolerance without compromising the tool geometry that makes the tool perform.

For SCT customers, the CemeCon CC800 gives us another way to match the coating to the application, especially where heat, wear, and tool life really matter.

Coming June 1: Versa (AlCrN), SCT’s first HiPIMS coating.

Tungsten carbide is expensive! Getting more out of every tool matters more than ever.

That’s why SCT is investing in what happens *after* the grind.

1. Edge prep hones the cutting edge.
2. Inspection verifies the details.
3. HiPIMS coating helps optimize cutting performance.

Together, they help create a more consistent finished tool built for better performance and longer tool life.

Three steps. One better edge.

Make every carbide edge count.

The grind matters, but what happens after the grind matters too: edge prep + inspection + HiPIMS coating.

Each step gives us more control over the finished tool, so you get a more consistent edge from the start and longer tool life in the cut.
