We are pleased to share that this May, Brice Forest, a member of our Engineering Department, was recognized at the Maryland Society of Professional Engineers (MDSPE) Newly Licensed Engineers Event.

The event brought together Maryland’s engineering community to recognize newly licensed professionals and celebrate this important career milestone. We were especially proud to be there in support of Brice as they reached this achievement.

A highlight of the evening was the Order of the Engineer ceremony, where Brice received their steel ring, symbolizing their pledge to uphold the integrity, ethics, and responsibility that come with being an engineer. It was a meaningful moment to witness and celebrate together.

Congratulations to Brice on earning their Professional Engineer (PE) license, a testament to their dedication, expertise, and commitment to the engineering profession. We are proud to celebrate this milestone and look forward to all they will accomplish in their career.

Last week, our team attended the Chesapeake Water Environment Association (CWEA) Stormwater Seminar to stay up to date on the latest developments in stormwater management and connect with the many clients, partners, and industry peers we regularly work with across the region.

As an organization dedicated to improving water quality and protecting the water environment across Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., the Chesapeake WEA plays an important role in advancing education, collaboration, and technical expertise within our industry.

In addition to networking, we attended several informative technical sessions, including “From Hotspot to Watershed,” which highlighted evolving approaches to watershed-scale planning and management. Experiences like this help us bring informed, forward-thinking solutions back to our projects.

As we celebrate Construction Safety Week, today we are taking part in OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls. Falls remain one of the leading causes of worker fatalities and life-altering injuries in our industry.

The most concerning part is that nearly all fall-related incidents are preventable with the right preparation, equipment, communication, and awareness. Fall protection only works when it’s used correctly, every single time. No shortcuts. No exceptions.

Speaking up, slowing down, and choosing the safer action every time is what prevents falls, protects one another, and ensures everyone makes it home safely at the end of the day.

On Tuesday, April 14, CPJ’s own Sean Peiffer, LS and Hannah Corson joined a delegation of surveyors from Virginia to participate in the NSPS - The National Society of Professional Surveyors Day on the Hill!

More than 100 surveyors from 46 states came together in Washington, D.C. to advocate for the profession and engage directly with congressional representatives. As part of the Virginia delegation, they met with the offices of several Virginia members of congress, including Northern Virginia representatives Congressman James Walkinshaw and Eugene Vindman to discuss key issues impacting the industry.

Discussions focused on workforce development, the importance of high-definition mapping and survey-related sciences at the federal level, and protecting field professionals from emerging hazards such as Alpha-Gal Syndrome.

At CPJ, we’re proud to support efforts that promote, protect, and advance the future of land surveying.

Everyday life is better when the spaces around us are designed with people in mind.

Through thoughtful design and technical precision, CPJ Landscape Designer, Baishakhi Biswas helps translate plans into built environments that support sustainability, connection, and everyday use.

Her work includes planting strategies, zoning coordination, and detailed site and grading plans that guide how spaces are built. She also develops clear, purpose-driven exhibits that support pedestrian and bicycle access, open space planning, and safe, functional site design.

Each drawing reflects a focus on creating outdoor environments that are functional, inclusive, and connected to the communities they serve, from early design through construction documentation.

This week, CPJ Staff James Fetchu, PLA, and Brian S., PLA, are attending the Maryland Recreation & Parks Association (MRPA) 2026 Annual Conference, joining fellow professionals dedicated to enhancing parks and recreation across Maryland communities. Centered around this year’s theme, “Orchestrating Community Well-Being,” the conference brings together leaders working across disciplines to strengthen how parks, programs, and public spaces serve communities.

As we move through , we are reminded that a key part of modern landscape architecture is the work behind the scenes, navigating evolving regulations, coordinating across multiple agencies and disciplines, and staying actively engaged with peers to share knowledge and keep pace with industry changes. These ongoing connections help shape more informed, resilient, and effective project outcomes.

Be sure to stop by the CPJ booth to connect with our team and learn more about how we’re helping shape communities across Maryland.

For the past three years, we’ve proudly participated in the ASLA Job Shadow program, hosting students interested in exploring the field of landscape architecture.

This March, we welcomed two students from the University of Maryland, College Park for a day designed to connect classroom learning with real-world practice.

The experience began in our Silver Spring office, where they explored active private-sector projects and saw how concepts move from design into implementation. After lunch, we went over to the Greenbelt office, shifting into public-sector work, from parks and civic spaces to infrastructure and community-driven design. The day ended with a hands-on design exercise, giving them a chance to think quickly, collaborate, and experience the pace and problem-solving that define professional practice.

Programs like this reflect what “learning through action” truly means—mentorship, exposure, collaboration, and the opportunity to experience the profession firsthand.

As we celebrate National Surveyors Week, our team is reflecting on the valuable insights and industry connections gained at the Maryland Society of Surveyors Spring Conference.

Several members of the CPJ survey team attended educational sessions covering emerging technologies, evolving practices, and the future of the profession. Topics ranged from the growing role of artificial intelligence in surveying workflows to how modern point cloud data and digital tools are transforming the way survey information is processed and delivered to clients.

Beyond the classroom, CPJ’s commitment to the profession extends into service. CPJ Survey Manager Bill Pugh, Chair of the MSS Chesapeake Chapter, is currently coordinating a volunteer effort to help the Severn River Association better understand the boundaries of a newly donated parcel of land in Anne Arundel County. The project will help the organization plan for future stewardship of the property while demonstrating the important role surveyors play in land management and conservation.

We recognize the survey professionals who continue to advance the field through innovation, education, and service to their communities. We’re proud of the CPJ team and their dedication to keeping our surveying practice at the forefront of the profession.
