Cochise County contractors do not have to drive to Tucson for material.

Hitchin Post carries the largest selection of common steel sizes, thicknesses, and lengths in the county. Common steel comes in 20-foot lengths, with schedule 40 pipe at 21 feet. The racks hold round tubing, square tubing, rebar, flat steel, hot and cold rolled rounds, channel iron, and angle iron, along with rolled sheet and plate, expanded metal, perforated, and diamond plate. Aluminum and stainless sit alongside the steel.

There is a separate drop selection for uncommon sizes and shapes. Anything not in the yard can be ordered in, and deliveries arrive twice a week.

Steel gets cut to the size and length the job needs.

Contractors putting numbers together for fall projects need to know what can actually be made in Cochise County.

Hitchin' Post runs a 4 by 8 CNC plasma table, a 175 ton hydraulic press brake, a shear that takes quarter-inch plate at ten feet, 90 and 100 ton ironworkers, and a 60 foot drill line. Welding covers gas, MIG, TIG, arc, dual-shield, and inner-shield, on steel, aluminum, and stainless.

Fall shipping and hauling season is close, and stock trailers that sat through the monsoon get loaded heavy for the first time in months.

Wet decking, a soft floor, a tweaked frame, or a bent axle does not announce itself until there is weight on it.

Monsoon moisture does quiet damage across Cochise County.
