Good luck to our friends Matt and Joleen this weekend as they will be running in the Falmouth road race on Sunday August 16th! Everyone at Papa’s Hardware is pulling for you!
Cape and the Islands Veterans Outreach Center has been a staple to Cape Cod since 1933 helping Veterans and their Families with vital free support including food assistance Housing assistance counseling and case management. The organization is located in Hyannis. Matt has been a part of CIVOCS Running team for Falmouth Road Race for the past 3 years and previously ran for Homes for Our Troops before they discontinued participation in the Falmouth Road Race. Matt's Father was a Vietnam Veteran with a Special Forces Battalion and was heavily exposed to Agent Orange leaving him with lung issues that eventually took him. Due to His Dad's exposure Matt was left with Side effects one being Tourette's Syndrome but he has never once let it stop him from living life being unable to serve in the Military due to this Matt Now Runs many Road Races in Support of our Veterans. He Hope to Run the Boston Marathon within the next few years for the Same cause. Right now he says Falmouth is his Focus and its his favorite Race out of all of them every year.
Joleen became part of the team Last year a dream she thought would never happen turned into reality when she Met her now Close friend Patsy Jeffries Zukowski who told her about the Adaptive Abilities group for the Same Race and Team. Now Joleen walks the Falmouth Road Race Route in Memory of her Uncle Niccholas Cardinale a Korean War Veteran. Joleen has a Respritory condition that mimics Cystic Fibrosis but currently does not have the diagnosis. She pops her portable oxygen machine on and Frequently walks between 5 and 7 miles or more to train for the Race. Adaptive Abilities starts 1 hr before the actual Race but she gets an official recorded time. She never thought it was going to be possible until she made the decision to step out of her comfort zone and just do it. Both her and Matt Raise money every year for this Cause their Goals are $1500. Matt has Reached his goal already and Joleen is just shy of 400$ from reaching hers. If you would like to make a Donation Joleens link is attached. You can also Still Donate to Matt but he would rather Joleen reach her Goal.
