American woman Henrietta Lacks was a 31-year-old mother of five from rural Virginia when she walked into Johns Hopkins Hospital in January 1951 with severe abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with aggressive cervical cancer and died 8 months later. But before she died, doctors took a sample of her cancer cells without her knowledge or consent - standard practice for Black patients in the segregated US South at the time. Her cells did something no human cells had ever done before. They didn't die in the lab. They kept dividing. And dividing. Forever. The cells - now known worldwide as HeLa cells - became the first immortal human cell line in medical history. They've since been used in over 75,000 medical studies, helping develop the polio vaccine, IVF, gene mapping, COVID-19 vaccines, and countless cancer treatments. There are now reportedly more HeLa cells alive on Earth today than there were cells in Henrietta's actual body when she died. Her family was uncompensated and uninformed for decades. In 2023, the Lacks family finally reached a settlement with one biotech company that had profited from her cells - 72 years after her death. ā¤ļø

New additions to our ā€˜hand holdingā€™ family!
These adorable slothes are an extension of the axoltls and have the same feature! Each sloth has magnets in each hand and foot so they can ā€˜hold handsā€™ (or feet ) with others or magnetize to certain surfaces. They can be mixed and matched so the combinations are endless!
We think they sure are sweet, what do you think?

As if my pod wasnā€™t big enough (lol) Of course I couldnā€™t help myself!
I had to print these adorable whales for my sonā€™s class for Valentineā€™s Day coming up!
I scaled the ā€˜toy keychainā€™ version up 150%! I figured it might be easiest to be able to tell each personā€™s whale apart from the other so I decided to design personalized keychains. Each child will receive a keychain with their name on it, just in case they get misplaced ect.
I also designed a tag to go with them instead of doing Valentineā€™s Day cards. I felt it tied everything together and was a cute, personal touch.
