A Tribute to Dave Herold
Dave Herold recently lost his battle with Pancreatic Cancer, and we are taking this moment to provide a tribute and thank you to Dave.
Dave was entering his 25th year of service at Wind Mill Slatwall Products. He looked forward to joining our “Quarter Century Club” roster of employees. We will make him an honorary member this year on his upcoming work anniversary.
He loved his Sales role, representing Wind Mill to the large number of customers in his territory. His position was East Region Sales Manager and that was basically one half of the United States. Dave was excellent at trip planning and always looked forward to his visits and learning about the opportunities and how he could help customers. He was a great note taker and sales report writer, and he also couldn’t wait to share key information with the team. I travelled with Dave on many customer visits where we could double team the call and figure out what the best next steps would be. It also allowed me to spend quality time with Dave where we had great discussions and better understand what customers were after, including the challenges that he was up against. Dave was very respected within the Retail Industry community, because of his honesty, trust worthiness and approach.
Regarding travel, Dave was very thrifty when it came to expenses and hotel stays. On more than one occasion, I let him know that we would not be staying in this hotel or area, due to general conditions and safety concerns. While the rates he found were always extremely reasonable, we did cancel our reservation at check in once after spotting that rooms were available by the hour. On one occasion while driving in a rough neighborhood in New Jersey, I directed him to keep driving thru the upcoming stop sign. I saw the individual who was just getting ready to take the car we were already in. Dave had not noticed because he was busy trying to follow the GPS route being provided from the dash mounted Garmin, and to make sure we stayed on time for the next visit. Dave was a true road warrior, and you could not be anything but impressed regarding his willingness to invest the time to make all the visits possible.
Dave had great friendships within the Wind Mill and Amerhart families as well, and he always enjoyed seeing everyone during his visits to Wisconsin for training and product updates. We already miss him and will always remember his uniqueness and dedication to Wind Mill.
Rest in peace my friend.
Mark
