Dear member,
Here is your weekly reminder to complete our wind damage survey. It takes most folks about 20-30 minutes to complete the survey. Please share your thoughts and input with us and make time to take our short survey. Your input is what we need! We need about 35 more completed surveys from your group. Please help us!
This survey has been reviewed by the Mississippi State University Institutional Review Board (IRB-24-225) and has received an exemption determination
Here is the live link to the survey: https://msstate.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_e4md3vV617GwokK
Please follow the link to the survey. There are a few demographic questions followed by a series of 33 photos, each photo has three questions for you to select your preferred answer. The first question is to identify the type of windstorm that caused the damage in the photo. The second question is to pick how confident you are of your answer. The third question is to pick what in the photo most affected your answer to the first question. This system is repeated for each photo. At the end of the survey there is a feedback option, please feel free to leave us anything you want to include. If you would like a copy of the survey, please include your email address and we will be happy to send a copy to you once we have completed our published papers regarding the survey, subject to MSU policy and publisher preference.

Dear members,

I hope this message finds you well. Our team is conducting a research study to better understand wind damage patterns caused by hurricanes, tornadoes, and straight-line winds. The study involves a short survey where respondents evaluate photos of wind damage and share their insights.

Your group members have been asked to participate by providing valuable feedback due to your members expertise. I kindly request your assistance in sharing the survey link with you and all your members. The survey is hosted on Qualtrics, a safe internationally recognized academic service provider, takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete, and all responses are voluntary and anonymous. I believe this study will contribute to advancing our collective understanding of wind damage.

The survey has a few demographic questions and 33 photos, each one ask to identify the windstorm type (hurricane, tornado, or straight line wind) that caused the damage, and is followed by a question of how confident you are of your answer, and a question of what in the photo caused to pick the wind event you choose. Each of the 33 photos follows this same three question format. Most people report about 20-30 minutes to complete the survey.
Thank you all for taking the survey, and I hope you enjoy taking it. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Matt B. Phelps, Ph.D., P.E.

I just learned my friend Rocco Calaci passed away yesterday. I can’t believe I am writing this.

Leanne Slay Calaci, I don’t know what to say. Rocco Calaci was a giant in the meteorology industry. Not only was Rocco my friend and mentor he was the best meteorologist I ever knew. I can’t believe it. He used to to call me just to see how my diabetes was doing. I am so so sorry, prayers for Rocco’s soul and you and your family.

Somehow, that just doesn’t cut it.
