In regard to the recent disastrous Key Bridge collapse:
Looking ahead, even without collisions: condominiums, bridges, ... structures in general CHANGE SHAPE before collapsing. Most do that gradually, and then: Bang! Before then, monitoring can definitely provide advanced warning. With over 70,000 bridges in U.S. having questionable structural integrity, we have every reason to follow through after measurements are taken. I've advocated exactly that, contacting those "responsible" until I'm blue-in-the-face citing published successful results on a scale much smaller (medical imaging) and much larger (indications apparent in the month before Japan's 2011 earthquake) -- if lack of response continues, structure collapse will become ROUTINE.
