Construction is now complete on the Fremont Siding near Selma, Alabama for Norfolk Southern, where Driven Engineering, Inc. provided civil and track design services.
Our team completed the design in 2024, supporting improvements to enhance corridor capacity and operational flexibility. Construction concluded in 2025 following an accelerated schedule that required ongoing coordination and responsive engineering support. We remained engaged throughout, working closely with the Norfolk Southern design and construction teams to help maintain momentum and meet operational objectives.

We’re pleased to share drone footage of the completed rail yard expansion at Plasmine Technology.
Driven Engineering, Inc. provided comprehensive civil engineering services for this project, including design of the rail yard, concrete tank car storage area, integrated rail scale track, and associated stormwater detention facilities. Our team secured all required approvals from the City of Bay Minette and managed the construction stormwater permit for the full site throughout development.
The project required CSX review and approval, including coordination of a design variance that was successfully approved. Navigating Class I railroad standards and variance processes requires detailed technical justification and close coordination — and we’re proud to have supported the project through that process.
Industrial rail yard developments of this scale demand integration of track geometry, heavy-duty pavement design, drainage infrastructure, operational components, and regulatory coordination. There’s something special about watching a dirt road transform into a finished roadway.
Construction is now complete on McDavid Road in Mobile County, and we’re proud of how this project turned out.
This improvement included full roadway reconstruction, open concrete-lined drainage channels on both sides of the road, and numerous driveway pipe installations — each one its own small design challenge to ensure proper drainage and long-term performance.
County road projects may not always make headlines, but their impact is immediate. Paving a dirt road changes how a neighborhood feels. Drainage improves. Access improves. And you begin to see the transformation — properties maintained more intentionally, edges defined cleanly, and a renewed sense of pride throughout the community.

Twenty years of building — and building with intention.

This month marks 20 years since Driven Engineering, Inc. was founded.

The firm began with three partners — friends who came alongside to pursue a vision of building a civil engineering practice grounded in integrity, technical excellence, and meaningful relationships. Within the first few years, that vision became the responsibility of new leadership to carry forward, shaping every chapter since.

Over two decades, we have grown from that small founding team into a firm trusted with critical rail infrastructure, public works, industrial development, and community projects across the region. The journey has included seasons of growth, seasons that required perseverance, and moments that demanded disciplined leadership.

Throughout the journey, our foundation has been grounded in faith, integrity, and gratitude — principles that have guided the firm through both growth and challenge.

We have grown intentionally — protecting our standards, practicing financial stewardship, and focusing on long-term sustainability. As we reach this 20-year milestone, Driven Engineering remains debt-free, reflecting that discipline and commitment to stability.

Most importantly, we are supported today by the strongest, most capable, and most talented team in the firm’s history. Their expertise and professionalism position us well for what lies ahead.

As a locally founded, woman-owned engineering firm, it’s an honor to contribute to a project of this scale and civic importance. Major downtown developments like this require more than drawings — they require thoughtful planning, coordination, and infrastructure solutions that will perform well for decades.

Driven Engineering began as a dream of our owner to provide higher quality services in a variety of areas, without the restrictions placed on that quality by purely profit-seeking employers. We were established with intentional motives to be able to grow, setting up everything as scalable as possible. We have grown too fast at times, we have shrunk, we have grown again, and we have learned immeasurably good and profitable lessons since we were founded in 2006. We have made mistakes, as all humans do, we have worked on improving ourselves, and we have continually stirived to find the sweet spot where we can serve those we work with as well as those we work for, in a way that glorifies God. We have finally achieved a company culture, a set of core values, and a vision for the future that is really exciting and we hope you will be able to be a part of that as part of our team of clients we serve or part of our core team that serves others with grace and humility!
