Our Story

Welcome to Leonard Hardware Company Leonard Hardware began serving the community in 1899 ~ one hundred and twenty years ago! It takes it's name from the original owner, H.G. Leonard, who had the same dreams and saw the many opportunities the Sebring family did. Mr. Leonard, who was well established in Salem Ohio at the time, began selling hardware and building materials to the growing town - directly from railroad box cars, until purchasing land, and building the hardware store that still stands today. In 1899, his first year of business, Leonard exceeded $50,000 in sales! ( The equivalent to about a million dollars today) John W. Risbeck, along with his sons John G. and Douglas, purchased the Leonard's in 1974. The business flourished under their care as John Sr. and Doug grew the sheet metal, heating and plumbing portion of the store, and John Jr. and wife Susan managed the retail hardware store. As a private independent company, Leonard Hardware continues to serve the community in an old-fashioned, service-oriented way. We at Leonard's stock quite a lot for our size business, and we have hundreds of suppliers. If you need something we don't stock, we're able to have almost any item delivered quickly and efficiently – sometimes the same day! Store owner Susan (Risbeck) Sanor and store manager Shawn Morrow welcome your suggestions and requests and will do all that we can to meet your hardware needs. We support our local schools, clubs and organizations whenever we can with donations and help. For the past ten years, we have collected clothing and school supplies every fall for the B.L. Miller school. We also collect toys every Christmas for the Sebring music boosters' toy drive. For the past 33 years, Leonard Hardware has hosted a yearly open house during the holidays. The seasonal Lawn and Garden department becomes the Christmas department in the months of November and December, and we kick off the season by offering store wide discounts, refreshments, free gifts and calendars to our customers.
