Medcom's 39 year anniversary is coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing. We are sadly reminded of the death of innocent civilians, women, children, the elderly - which is a reminder of the indiscriminate nature of nuclear weapons. The weapons have increased in power dramatically over the past eighty years and human wisdom has not seem to have increased at the same rate. Let's hope humankind can find a way to pivot away from war and towards reduction in the extreme risks associated nuclear weapons.

Hiroshima is marking the 80th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of the western Japanese city. Many aging survivors express frustration over growing global support for nuclear weapons as deterrence.

Our focus as a company for these many years has been radiation protection. We believe the best protection comes from prevention. Years ago we worked with various agencies to provide instrumentation to prevent smuggling of nuclear weapons and materials under the mutual threat reduction regime created by US Senators Nunn and Lugar, a Democrat and a Republican who worked together for the common good of US Citizens and humanity. We see a bipartisan effort currently underway to prevent launch of nuclear weapons by any AI system. We believe this is important for many reasons. Some may recall the Russian man who disobeyed protocols to launch a nuclear strike when the computers believed (in error) that a missile strike by US upon Russia was in progress. No matter how crazy the world gets it is important that humans with some common sense and wisdom keep making efforts to communicate and find ways to make steps towards peace (or at least prevention) and common understanding.

Several House lawmakers want assurances that any decision to launch nuclear weapons is made by humans, not an artificial intelligence system.

Medcom's focus for 37 years has been radiation detection. We design and manufacture high quality instruments with what we believe are the world's best warrantees. We are grateful that so many people and organizations have trusted us and came to us with their radiation detection needs. We are not a marketing or social media organization and prefer to concentrate on refining our instruments to give them long life and dependable performance. It has come to our attention that people come to Facebook looking for us so we will put a little time into keeping the public updated on what we are up to. Some of our latest projects include dedicated monitoring stations for at risk communities, ruggedization and low power solar options our environmental monitoring systems, and we continue to provide our hand held instruments to FDNY and numerous other first response organizations across the globe.

Our Hawk Radius Probe is a unique design of ours. It is the result of almost 30 years of research, field deployment and product evolution. It is incredibly energy efficient, designed for challenging environments, carries Medcom's unmatched 2 year warranty (1 year on GM sensors). It has great sensitivity to most common beta radiation sources, will detect noble gases such as Xe-133 and Kr-85, and also has an internal gamma only energy compensated sensor. The Radius works well with Campbell Scientific data loggers, with the Safecast nGeigie and has been deployed with Rasberry Pi computers running Linux. With our GeigerLink module it can also be used with Apple OSX computers.

Just want to remind everyone that the Good Design Award winning bGeigie Nano kit is available from http://www.kithub.cc. The "nano" has contributed to over 80 million radiation data points that can be viewed on maps created by Safecast. http://www.safecast.org. Our Orapin built the one in this photograph below (Orapin with Safecast Advisor Ray Ozzie in Tokyo). Hers was the first pink model and it has collected data on scientific missions to Bikini Atoll and the North Pole.
