Marine Rescue Technologies

Marine Rescue Technologies MRT focuses on MOB Locate, Reach and Retrieval systems, Vessel Tracking and Dive solutions. We look forward to helping you find the right safety solution.

For over 15 years, MRT has been a leader in the distribution of marine safety solutions approved by United States Coast Guard, the EU Marine Equipment Directive and SOLAS/IMO. Our experienced staff provides consulting, design, site survey, installation and after sales service support. We offer the highest quality marine safety and rescue systems available. Our recommendation for a rescue solution

is based on the end users perceived risk, mitigation objectives and our own experiences. We believe there is no perfect safety or rescue solution. However, when rescue systems are installed, and employees are properly trained, the risk of a serious man over board event decreases significantly. AutoCrew - Based on customer feedback, MRT has designed a web-based, automated POB/Muster System called AutoCrew. AutoCrew offers Automated POB and Muster Drill Management, Personnel Logistics, Gangway Management, Bunk Allocation, Automated Reports, and multi-lingual interface across all customizable offerings. AutoCrew is specifically designed to better manage and prepare companies at a local or enterprise level for crew management, training, and emergency drills.

Today marks MRT's annual audit. It's not our favourite day of the year, but Smithers makes it fun!

Jokes aside, we are proud to be an ISO company in the purchase and distribution of marine safety equipment as well as the design and development of AutoCrew - our personnel tracking and muster software for both offshore and onshore work industries.

As a small family business, we are dedicated to serving our customers to the highest possible standards. Maintaining ISO compliance keeps quality and continuous improvement top of mind day in, and day out.

We hope our Safety Bundle in partnership with sMRT and Datrex, Inc. will make recreational marine safety straightforward, actionable, and attainable so more people can feel confident on the water.

Read more about it in our latest article and reach out with any questions you have! And for our US customers, FCC approval is still pending on the sMRT ALERT, but is expected very soon!

Sebastian company equips floating World Cup soccer pitch with safety gear ⚽️

SEBASTIAN — A Sebastian marine safety company has outfitted a floating soccer pitch and fan zone in Seattle with equipment designed to handle man-overboard emergencies during the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Marine Rescue Technologies consulted on U.S. Coast Guard requirements and delivered the gear that helped the barge-based venue on Elliott Bay pass inspection. The setup, built atop a maritime vessel, gives fans and players a first-of-its-kind waterfront soccer experience powered by Lenovo.

The safety package included Markus MOB scramble nets, Reach and Rescue ultralight telescopic poles, WeatherDock easyONE maritime survivor locating devices and Datrex life rings approved by the Coast Guard.

Those tools let response teams reach and recover people quickly if they end up in the water.

“It’s the type of equipment you hope never to use, but you need to have it,” said Michael Ritchie, president of Marine Rescue Technologies Inc. “We’re proud to be a small part in making this exciting fan zone possible. We love soccer and are especially glad the floating fan zone will be available to kids for free play. All my kids grew up playing soccer in Sebastian and it means a lot to know that the RAVE Foundation is committed to providing access for underserved kids. What a wonderful initiative.”

Seattle Reign FC and Seattle Sounders FC, along with the RAVE Foundation, made the floating field possible. It serves as the symbolic 52nd mini soccer field in the foundation’s statewide building program. Kids under 14 can use it for free during designated play days.

Founded in 2003, Marine Rescue Technologies focuses on marine safety and man-overboard recovery systems. The company got its start with personal locator beacons and now serves clients around the world from its base on Florida’s Treasure Coast.

At Mahia Beach in New Zealand, a rare and remarkable rescue unfolded in the ocean.

A mother pygmy s***m whale and her calf repeatedly stranded on the shore after becoming disoriented by a sandbar just offshore. A Department of Conservation worker and several locals spent more than an hour trying to guide the whales back to sea, but each attempt failed. The whales kept returning to the beach.

Then something unexpected happened.

A bottlenose dolphin known locally as Moko appeared near the struggling whales. Witnesses reported that the dolphin approached the pair and began swimming alongside them. Soon after, the whales followed.

Moko escorted them about 200 metres along the shoreline to the end of the sandbar. There, the dolphin turned sharply through a narrow channel and guided the mother and calf back into deeper water and out to sea.

Human rescuers had tried for more than an hour without success. The dolphin managed it in minutes.

After that moment, the whales were not seen again in the area, suggesting they safely returned to the open ocean.
