There are many great innovative ideas that ultimately fall by the wayside. We know that *implementation* is where the rubber meets the road, and it’s rigorous and slow. It has to overcome resistance and discomfort with the unfamiliar. It has to be affordable, and it has to make what is challenging seem achievable. That has always been the double-edged sword of sustainability. If it’s too hard and too expensive, people simply won’t do it.

When ArchEcology began, we chose to base our business model on the belief that incremental change adds up. We wanted to help make sustainability accessible to every project, not just those funded by visionaries. Click the link below to learn more about our approach.

We're proud to announce the LEED Silver certification of our first health clinic! The PeaceHealth Lynden Clinic is a 25,000SF single-floor regional clinic with an urgent care facility. This project was challenging due to its remote location and program, it was incredibly satisfying for us to help guide PeaceHealth to its very first LEED-certified facility.

Projects like this--that are focused on the health and well-being of all of us and bring much-needed services to local communities --are what sustainability is all about.

Last month, we had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of Beacon Pacific Village Apartments, a mixed-use community development on the Pacific Hospital campus. It has 160 units of affordable housing, a 24,000 sf facility for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly owned (AiPACE) and operated by International Community Health Services (ICHS), and a 10,000 sf daycare facility operated by El Centro de la Raza.

This type of project is of increasing importance as the cost of living in Seattle continues to rise. It also addresses the serious lack of family-oriented, multi- and intergenerational housing. The hope is that this project will sustain the existing culture of a gentrifying area by providing affordable housing, childcare, and healthcare options.

ArchEcology worked with the large team to provide ESDS consulting services for the housing as well as the childcare. We are also providing LEED consulting services for AiPACE.

Congratulations to all who were involved! A lot of work went into this important community project.

Back in September, Megan was a part of a joint effort between the AIA Seattle Committee on the Environment and the Urban Design Forum to kick off a three-part series titled Visions for Downtown. The visioning charrette included a diverse group of architects, landscape architects, planners, and policymakers who gathered to generate ideas for breathing new life into downtown Seattle. Nancy and Evelyn recently went on a site visit for some of our existing building projects and ran into some goats (who were also hard at work!) Goats are an incredible green option for trimming (munching) back overgrown areas and "mowing" the lawn.
