Moving a 150-foot long radome container across the country was only part of the challenge.

After traveling over 4,100 miles across 11 states, the Radome Envelope Container (REC) arrived in Oregon for the next critical phase of the project — loading the structure onto a vessel bound for Hawaii.

At the Port of Rainier along the Columbia River, OXBO developed and executed a detailed vessel loadout plan accounting for river currents, tide swings, low water levels, and vessel positioning constraints.

Using 12 lines of Goldhofer PST/SLE, the massive REC — measuring approximately 150 feet long and weighing over 200,000 pounds (cargo only) — was transported across the pier and positioned for loading.

A spacer barge, derrick crane barge, tugboats, and 75-foot ramps were used to safely transfer the cargo to the MDA-contracted support vessel Black Watch.

Every step of the operation required coordination between marine crews, engineers, transport teams, and project management.

Once secured in accordance with ABS requirements, the vessel departed ahead of schedule for its journey to Ford Island, Pearl Harbor.

The final phase of the project was about to begin.

How do you move a 1.3-million-pound gas turbine generator through city streets?

It takes precise coordination between OXBO crews, law enforcement, utility personnel, and specialized support teams.

Bucket trucks temporarily lifted traffic signal arms, intersections were carefully managed, and OXBO es**rt vehicles guided the 132-foot-long Goldhofer PST/E self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) through every turn.

With a loaded footprint nearly 30 feet wide and a gross weight exceeding 1.3 million pounds, every foot of progress relied on detailed planning, clear communication, and flawless ex*****on.

The OXBO team recently delivered an Andritz Sketchbed—one of three critical pieces supporting Tesla manufacturing—covering 2,360 miles from Texas to Nevada under an intense, ever-changing schedule.

This was the heaviest of the three loads:
◾ 186’3” L × 16’3” W × 17’0” H
◾ Load weight: ~255,780 lbs
◾ Gross weight: 538,000 lbs
◾ Configuration: Pull truck + 10 lines of Goldhofer CA + push truck

From load-out on April 9 to delivery on April 24—exactly two weeks—this move tested every part of the plan.

Arizona proved to be the most demanding stretch. What should have been a 3-day transit turned into 7 days due to:
◾ Strict daytime and nighttime travel windows
◾ City-specific restrictions (including Tucson night-only movement)
◾ Limited access through tribal jurisdictions
◾ Multiple county and municipal approvals—including a dedicated bridge engineering study

At one point, the crew was balancing:
◾ 3 state troopers required at all times in AZ
◾ 4 state troopers required in NV
◾ A shifting Nevada es**rt schedule that threatened to delay entry by weeks

Despite trailer issues, forced downtime, and constant regulatory hurdles, the team hit a critical milestone—arriving at the Arizona/Nevada border with just hours to spare to meet their revised es**rt window.

Nevada transit followed over two days without issue, and the load was delivered just half a day behind the lighter companion pieces.

That doesn’t happen by chance.

It happens because of experienced crews, real-time problem solving, and relentless coordination across states, agencies, and stakeholders.

Outstanding work by everyone involved in getting this done under pressure.

Before a 130-foot radar dome could be installed in Pearl Harbor, it first had to be lifted, tested, and deployed inside a historic aircraft hangar in North Carolina.

A project like this begins long before the final installation.

Earlier this year, OXBO supported the trial deployment of XBR2, a 130-foot diameter inflatable radome designed to protect the X-Band radar system mounted aboard the SBX-1 vessel. Before the system could travel across the country and eventually deploy in Pearl Harbor, the radome first had to be tested and verified at full scale.

Inside a historic hangar in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, the radome was lifted from a horizontal position using four RT cranes and carefully positioned within a custom engineered Radome Envelope Container (REC). Using 12 lines of Goldhofer PST/SLE, a specially designed tripping frame, and a 600-ton hydraulic crane, the structure was upended to a vertical position for testing and inspection.

With only inches of clearance inside the hangar, every movement required precision. Spotters on the ground, operators in man lifts, and drone monitoring ensured safe clearances throughout the lift and swing operations.
The trial deployment allowed engineers and the customer to inspect the radome at full scale before the next phase of the journey began.

Projects of this complexity require careful planning, engineered solutions, and the coordination of multiple teams working together toward a single goal.

OXBO recently completed the successful transport and installation of a transformer for a project in Bastrop, Texas. The load measured 199'2" long, 16' wide, 20'3" high, and weighed a total of 678,000 pounds. The move utilized a pull truck, 12 lines of Goldhofer equipment, a push truck, and covered 322 routed miles.

Our team conducted multiple site visits to verify accessibility and identify any improvements needed to accommodate the transport configuration. When weather conditions prevented site access the week prior to the move, OXBO worked closely with the customer to develop a solution and coordinated a large-scale site matting operation to keep the project on schedule.

Due to the overall height of the load, additional safety measures were implemented, including two extra bucket truck units. The final es**rt configuration included four motorcycle police officers, four bucket truck crews, multiple high-pole es**rts, pilot cars, and dedicated supervision throughout the move.

The transformer arrived on site over the weekend without incident. Following delivery, our crew completed the jack-and-slide operation safely and successfully. Even after an unexpected placement adjustment was required due to revised site measurements, the team adapted and completed the project on schedule.

Most importantly, the project was executed without incidents and delivered another successful outcome for our customer.

Massive pile template frames built for precision — and moved with even more.

Each frame measured 50’ x 43’6” x 33’3” and weighed approximately 250,000 lbs. With an unusual configuration, limited support points, and an offset center of gravity, conventional transport wasn’t an option. OXBO selected self-propelled dollies to safely manage the load while maintaining tight height clearances exiting the fabrication bay.

Because of those height constraints, the frames were first transported to an outdoor staging area where they were jacked up 8 feet to allow final fabrication on the underside of the assemblies.

Once assembly was complete, beams and dollies were repositioned to accommodate the new center of gravity, and the frames were carefully moved to the pier for crane loading to barge. These pile templates are headed to the Port of Alaska in Anchorage.

Complex geometry. Tight clearances. Changing load dynamics
This move required careful planning at every step — long before the frames ever started rolling.

Not every road can handle a 1.3 million-pound transport.

This 7.5-mile move required months of engineering, permitting, and coordination before the trailer ever began to roll. The route included private roadways, temporary infrastructure modifications, and one of the only bridges capable of supporting the load after extensive engineering analysis.

Using 48 Goldhofer PST/E SPMT axle lines configured in a 24-line double-wide arrangement, our crews worked alongside law enforcement, utility companies, es**rt vehicles, and local partners to safely complete this extraordinary move.

• Route Length: 7.5 miles
• Dimensions: 132' L × 29'6" W × 21'8" H
• Trailer: 48 Goldhofer PST/E SPMT axle lines (24-line double-wide)
