A shared story: This picture was taken August 6 1975. On the left is me and my father Felton Smith on right is dad’s brother my uncle James Smith with his son my first cousin Steve Smith. Most of y’all have seen ,owned loaded or pulled a log trailer made by Savannah Machine Shop in Savannah TN. The shop belonged to Mr Holloway. His sister was married to my Grandfathers brother and was well know for his welding abilities. He had built many side loaders for local loggers. My father and uncle were among the first I’m almost sure the second contractors to sign up at Champions new paper mill in Courtland Al. After logging a couple years hauling pulp wood on short trucks it was time to move up. They bought a set of used Axels form a man in Florence Al. After a few trips to Savannah they talked Mr. Holloway (Blondie) into building the a log trailer. He did not want to do it at first the side loader business was good. I’m really not sure how many thousand they built before going out of business but this is a picture of number 1. It sits retired in a pasture on my uncles farm today. To me this is a piece of southern logging history. Wesley Smith
