Alison Yovine, RLA, was honored to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly dedicated Elizabeth Blume-Silverstein Plaza at Rutgers Law School in Newark, New Jersey.

Saratoga Associates advanced the concept developed by the Rutgers Planning, Development, and Design team, providing construction documents for the plaza’s gateway walls. These elements create a welcoming gathering space that honors the legacy of one of New Jersey’s pioneering female attorneys.

A 1911 graduate of what is now Rutgers Law School, Elizabeth Blume-Silverstein broke barriers throughout a distinguished legal career that spanned nearly six decades, leaving a lasting impact on the profession and the communities she served.

We are proud to have contributed to a project that celebrates her remarkable achievements and preserves her legacy for future generations.

We were thrilled to join the community for the Grand Reopening of the Senate House State Historic Site on Saturday.

Saratoga Associates provided design, construction documents, and construction oversight for restoration work at the historic Senate House and Museum, including window restoration, masonry repairs, a new cedar shake roof, and site stormwater improvements.

Projects like this are about more than restoring historic buildings, they ensure that the stories, events, and people that shaped our nation remain accessible and meaningful for future generations.

Be sure to check out the two new exhibits: “Revolution Comes to Kingston,” and “Vanderlyn: The Artist,” that highlight the American Revolution.

This Preservation Month, we’re proud to celebrate the final stage of exterior restoration work on the iconic North and South Redoubts at Old Fort Niagara. The French Castle exterior restoration was completed in 2024.

Built in 1770 and 1771, the massive stone Redoubts stand as enduring symbols of military architecture and resilience. The South Redoubt remains one of the Fort’s most recognizable structures, while the North Redoubt played a critical role during the War of 1812 when American and British forces fought for control of the Fort.

Restoration work included:
⚒ Stone and brick repointing
⚒ Precast stone cap installation
⚒ New stainless steel chimney flues and copper caps

Saratoga Associates provided design, construction documents, and construction administration for masonry repairs and repointing efforts, helping preserve these extraordinary historic structures for future generations. We’re honored to support the stewardship of places that connect communities to our shared heritage.

This National Preservation Month, we’re reflecting on the places that carry our nation’s story forward and the work required to preserve them for future generations. As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, this year’s theme highlights the importance of protecting the sites that bring history to life.

We’re proud to support the rehabilitation of the Senate House Museum (ca. 1927) and the Senate House (ca. 1676), the historic location where the New York State Senate met during the Revolutionary War. Our work on the project includes design, construction documents and construction oversight of the restoration of historic windows, masonry repointing, re-roofing the Senate House with traditional cedar shakes, and addressing critical stormwater improvements throughout the site, helping preserve both the structures and the visitor experience for years to come.

Be sure to check out the Grand Re-Opening of the Senate House State Historic Site on May 30th. Enjoy new exhibits, tours, living history demonstrations, live music, food trucks, family activities. https://parks.ny.gov/visit/events/250th-anniversary-kickoff-senate-house-grand-re-opening

In observance of Memorial Day, our office will be closed as we pause to remember the servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and to honor the importance of preserving the places where our nation’s history was shaped.

Happy World Bee Day! 🐝

Pollinator-friendly landscapes aren’t just important for home gardeners, they play a critical role in how we plan parks, streetscapes, pedestrian pathways, campuses, and community spaces that support healthy ecosystems and biodiversity.

In her blog, Emily Gardner, RLA, explores how thoughtful landscape design can create meaningful pollinator habitats.

Did you know? Pollinators choose forage plants based on color, shape, scent, nectar, and pollen production, and not all pollinators are attracted to the same plants.

🐝 Bees are especially drawn to white, yellow, blue, and even ultraviolet colors.

From municipal planning to public space design, incorporating pollinator-supportive landscapes can help communities create spaces that are both beautiful and ecologically beneficial.

Check out Emily’s blog to learn more about designing with pollinators in mind. 🌼

Congratulations to the communities recently awarded funding through the NY Forward and Downtown Revitalization Initiative programs! These investments represent exciting opportunities to advance projects that strengthen downtowns, improve public spaces, support economic development, and enhance quality of life across New York State.

With the Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) opening soon, now is the time to begin preparing projects, refining priorities, and identifying funding opportunities. Saratoga Associates partners with communities throughout every stage of the process, from project development, strategic planning, and compelling visual renderings for applications, to grant administration and implementation support after awards are secured.

If managing grants or navigating application requirements has been a barrier to pursuing funding opportunities, our multidisciplinary team of planners, landscape architects, architects, engineers, and grant specialists can help move projects forward with confidence.

Be sure to explore our Grant Funding Management Resource Guide and reach out to our team to discuss upcoming projects, funding strategies, or community goals.
