On this Laura Hecox Day we stopped by her memorial to remember her legacy. As part of the U.S Lighthouse Service, which later became part of the US Coast Guard, she ran the Santa Cruz light station while collecting marine specimens that formed the core of today’s SC Natural History Museum.

As we long and prepare for warmer conditions, our Vessel Examiners are hard at work.

As we’ll all be returning to the water for business or leisure, reach out to your local Flotilla to inquire about a Vessel Examination. Supporting our active duty counterpart by ensuring those who go out on the water are well prepared, we also ensure those who go boating come back as safely as they left.

Always wear an engine cutoff device and a life jacket. If you capsize, stay with your boat, unless the shore is very close. The lake’s shore may look easy to reach, but often cold water, waves, current, exhaustion, or injury can make the swim deadly.
