In 1960 John Sherwood of Empire Speedway's brought a USAC Midget Driver to my Dad's shop in King's Cross, Sydney. The personable American driver would race out of our shop for the following decade. Aside from being fast and winning 50% of the races he entered, Bob's charisma made him a promoter's dream. As an enthusiastic kid helping, Bob would teach me so much about racing, and being highly decorated serviceman, life in general. In addition to his local success, with 7 World Derby triumphs, Bob had been a UARA and USAC Champion. Despite a short career he ranks 4th of all time for victories in the US. I was honored to race with him up until his final feature race victory in Australis. On the 52nd Anniversary of Bob' untimely passing due to cancer, the Royal Automobile Club in conjunction with the Vintage Speedcar Association of NSW, are having a memorial dinner in Bob's honor. As many of you know his widow Dee lost her home and all of Bob's memorabilia in a fire a few days before Christmas last year. I hope that everyone's generosity will help Dee as she rebuilds her house in Streater, IL

I’d like to thank Top Fuel Dragster driver Justin Ashley, for his kindness and thoughtfulness, for carrying decals in memory of Karen McGee on his racecar at Indianapolis.
We were honored on Saturday when he set a new speed record at 335mph during qualifying for the quickest field in history!
With one of the fastest and most consistent cars on the premises he posted a strong semi final finish in yesterday’s shootout, and after beating the best a semi final finish in today’s US Nationals.
Thank you Justin Ashley, Mike Green and Justin Covarrubius. What a class act!

Racing communities around the world are mourning the loss of Karen McGEE. It is with great sadness to announce late Friday evening , Karen unfortunately lost her battle with Mesothelioma. Karen was the wife to Chris McGEE and mother to their daughter Kaitlyn (McGEE) Panis. We are heartbroken for Chris and his family and we ask kindly that if you have any inquiries or other business with Chris, to please redirect those inquiries to [email protected]. Sad to learn of the passing of 60's midget star Brian Mannion. Brian, known as "Fearless", was a household name during the 60's at the Sydney Showground and Westmead Speedways. Graeme Rufenacht won today’s Western Conference Finals 16-17 year old group, at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison CO. Graeme is one of the most productive drivers in the sport. It was the 2nd time Graeme’s has won this event with the 1st one coming 5 years ago in Tulsa. His dad Sam prepared for this event for months and made perfect calls for the unpredictable conditions thrown at them. In addition Graeme was part of the Champion Track Team from Houston.

We'd like to wish all the racers luck at this weekend's Western Conference Finals held at Bandimere Speedway, Morrison, CO.
25 years ago many of us made the drive from California to Denver for this race, which at that time was a bona fide National Championship. Participation grew to the point that in subsequent years the NHRA divided the Finals into East and West geographical zones.
There was much concern from racers familiar with competing at sea level, as how they’d perform “up on the Mountain” at mile high altitude. The difficult conditions make success even more rewarding. When the champions were crowned it included a trio of west coast racers, Kyle Rizzoli, Shawn Langdon and Del Cox Jr. Plus Team Rialto were the team champions. All would become stars of the sport as they progressed up the racing ladder. Shawn has won World Championships in Super Comp and Top Fuel. 15 year old runner up Sean Bellemeur has also won several TAFC World Championships.
When you look down the list of young racers you see names like Justin Lamb, Ryan McClanahan, Tanner Grey, Leah Pruett, Spencer Massey and some who stepped out of the seat and became valuable crew guys like 4 time World Champ Nitro crewmember our own Justin Covarrubias.
