One Last Chance to Repeal AB 5 & how you can help!
FROM REPRESENTATIVE KEVIN KILEY
On August 31 the Legislature will adjourn for the year, even while there are still thousands of Californians impacted by AB 5. Next week, I will give them one last chance to do the right thing. I plan to offer an amendment to a bill on the Assembly Floor that would repeal AB 5 once and for all.
There are many conversations going on about the best way to provide an economic stimulus in California. Repealing AB 5 would stimulate our economy in the most direct and costless way by simply letting people work and practice their profession.
AB 5 proponents will still try to claim that this is all about Uber and Lyft. That’s why my AB 5 Amendment leaves out app-based drivers, letting the voters decide their status on the November ballot. It would, however, repeal AB 5 for every other profession that has fallen victim to this disastrous law. Any member of the Legislature that fails to support this amendment is simply voting to stop court reporters, interpreters, translators, healthcare workers, and tutors from working.
The vote is happening next week, here’s how you can help:
Contact your Legislator and tell them to Repeal AB 5 before session ends on August 31. You can look up your Assembly and Senate representative by clicking here.
Write a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper. In your letter, share your personal AB 5 story and urge the Legislature to Repeal AB 5 before session ends on August 31. My team has compiled this list of instructions on how to submit a Letter to the Editor to many of the major newspapers in California.
Share on social media. Please share this Facebook post and retweet my video message about the AB 5 Amendment on Twitter.
It’s time for the Legislature to do the right thing for the thousands of independent workers who need relief from AB 5.
Sincerely,
Kevin Kiley
