What a better way to spend a beautiful fall ☀️Saturday than exploring ecological restoration in action?! A public outreach walk at the Quashnet River in Mashpee gave people an opportunity to hear about the restoration project and to offer feedback on design alternatives, with HW’s Neal Price leading the tour and sharing insights along the way 🍂

Horsley Witten Group collaborated with NOAA, ERG, and the Eastern Caribbean Center of the University of the Virgin Islands to facilitate local surveying efforts on St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John in 2025!

Survey teams went door to door to interview residents about coral reefs. Residents discussed their use of coral reefs and their knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of coral reef ecosystems and coral reef management. 🌟This is part of a larger effort to improve coral reef conservation programs at local, regional, and national levels. 550 households were surveyed. The results of the study are now available and summarized in the infographic below.

📚 Day 3 was packed with knowledge and hands-on learning! Trainees explored soil fundamentals, sharpened their plant identification skills, and gained valuable insight into tree laws and regulations as part of the Virgin Islands Urban Forestry and First Aid/CPR Certification Training.🪴🌳 What a great group! 🪚Another successful day of training! Participants strapped on their safety gear and gained hands-on experience in safe chainsaw operation and proper tree pruning techniques through the Virgin Islands Urban Forestry and First Aid/CPR Certification Training, offered under the Workforce Training Program for Nature-Based Solutions. Building skills, confidence, and a stronger workforce, one tree at a time! 🌳💚

🌳⛑️ Day 1 of the Virgin Islands Urban Forestry & First Aid/CPR Certification Training last week was a success!
Urban foresters, landscapers, arborists, and others who work with trees face unique worksite challenges every day in the Virgin Islands. First Aid and CPR certification equips them with the skills and confidence to respond quickly in an emergency, helping keep crews, colleagues, and communities safer. We loved this collaboration 💚

HW had an exciting day golfing for a great cause at Delphi Construction First Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Funds raised went to the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod. We are already looking forward to next year! ⛳️🏌️‍♂️

We had the opportunity to share in the celebrations at Malden River Works on Sunday with the City of Malden staff, Mystic River Watershed Assoc. and our design team members, Landing Studio Pare Corporation Pare and Offshoots, Inc. 🤝 This new riverfront park and public dock on the Malden River, alongside the revitalized public works yard, will provide a resilient space for residents to enjoy all year-round. With over an acre of native-planted open space, 200+ new trees and green stormwater infrastructure that manages over 100,000 gallons, this space exemplifies the possibilities for creating a multifunctional public space in an urban community 🏞️🏃‍♀️🌳

We love these boat ramp projects! Great team effort for clean water!

Celebrating cleaner water at Mashpee-Wakeby Pond! 💧

In mid-September, APCC joined state and local partners to celebrate major improvements at the Mashpee-Wakeby Pond boat ramp. The project improves public access and helps reduce stormwater pollution entering the pond.

The $820,000 project includes five rain gardens, two underground infiltration systems, parking lot improvements, and accessibility upgrades—creating a more resilient space for visitors while protecting water quality.

APCC is proud to have partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game Office of Fishing and Boating Access, Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management, town of Mashpee, and Horsley Witten Group to bring this project to completion.
