Today’s inspection took us out to Treasure Island on the San Francisco Bay. Clear skies, the full Bay Bridge from Oakland all the way across, and San Francisco sitting in the background. Not a bad day to be out on the water.

We were out here conducting the annual inspection on a lattice boom crawler crane mounted on a barge, also known as a ringer. During the inspection we tested the anti two-block device on the whip line and it failed. No audible alarm, no automatic shutoff. On top of that, the whip line actually jammed inside the device itself. We had to swing over the sister crane with a man basket to send someone up and clear it before we could continue.

This is exactly why inspections exist. A two-block event on a live load can be catastrophic, and the downtime and liability that follows can run into the hundreds of thousands depending on the situation. We caught it on our terms today, and that’s the whole point.

Doc Bailey Construction Equipment is looking for a motivated mechanic to join our team!

Business is booming and we have more work coming in than we can handle right now. We need someone who is ready to hit the ground running from day one, no long onboarding, no hand holding. If you know how to use a wrench and a multimeter and you’re ready to work, we want you on our team.

If you’ve got at least 2 years of hands-on experience, we want to hear from you. Electrical and hydraulic experience is a big plus. We’re not just looking for someone who knows what they’re doing, we want someone who’s hungry to keep learning and growing.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
• At least 2 years of mechanic experience
• Electrical and hydraulic experience preferred
• Must have your own tools
• Reliable, hardworking, and willing to learn
• Ready to jump in and contribute from day one
