Don’t forget to register!

Our next Bending the Climate Curve webinar is coming up on March 17, and it takes a practical look at how institutions can move from climate goals to real action.

Tanja Srebotnjak, PhD from Williams College will share how they are advancing a multipronged decarbonization strategy across all three emissions scopes, and how learning, flexibility, and broad participation are critical to long-term success.

You will hear insights on:
• Why there is no one-size-fits-all decarbonization plan
• How to pivot when conditions change
• Ways to reduce emissions beyond building electrification
• How to make climate action everyone’s responsibility

We are proud to share that “Sky Prairie” located in Kansas City International Airport has won the prestigious Illuminating Engineering Society IES Illumination Award of Merit for its outstanding contribution to lighting design located in Kansas City International Airport at Arrivals Roadway, lighting design delivered by Mazzetti’s Senior Associate Lighting Designer, Janelle Drouet (she/her) for Left Hand Lighting and Toby Lewis, Principal Left Hand Lighting.

“Sky Prairie” is a suspended kinetic installation welcoming travelers along the Arrivals Roadway of the new Kansas City Airport, part the largest public art project in Kansas City history, was designed by Jill Anholt Studio with lighting design in collaboration with Left Hand Lighting approved by the Municipal Art Commission. Designed to create an unexpected and immersive experience, the work draws inspiration from the rolling hills and waving grasses of the western Missouri landscape.

The installation is composed of two sculptural fields, each formed from thousands of aluminum tubes painted in warm shades of gold and orange. Suspended on aircraft cables, the tubes gently sway in wavelike patterns, animated by air currents and passing traffic. Sequenced LED lighting infuses the work with a soft, glowing radiance, further amplifying its immersive presence.

Together, these elements transform the gateway into Kansas City into a luminous landscape an evocative gesture of place and welcome for every arriving traveler.

Huge congratulations to the incredible design team, Jill Anholt, Zoë Jackson, Toby Lewis, and Janelle Drouet! Your artistic vision, technical expertise, and passion continue to shape unforgettable, iconic installations.

Mazzetti is proud of our work on the Northern California Best Health Care Award-winning Behring Pavilion and UCSF – John Muir Health Jean and Ken Hofmann Cancer Center in Walnut Creek, CA.

Mazzetti provided MEP Engineering, IT Consulting, Medical Equipment Planning, and Lighting Design for the 1555,000sf OSHPD-3 outpatient facility with a cancer treatment focus. The LEED Gold Certified project includes clinics, diagnostic, and treatment services including imaging, lab, breast health imaging and genetic counseling, oncology/ infusion, digestive health, pediatrics, pulmonary function, wound/ hyperbaric, post-trauma, pre-admin testing, and support spaces.

"Thoughtful, cleanable, durable luminaires were chosen when coordinating the lighting design. We balanced John Muir's vision for a healing environment while keeping patient comfort, soft vertical brightness, and glare-free lighting a top priority," stated Lauren Schwade LC, EDAC, IALD, IES , "We also have integrated wireless controls throughout the building that aided in cost and energy reduction along with clean, uncluttered ceiling plans.

We're pleased to announce that Walt Vernon and Christina Vernon Sanborn will share their expertise at the upcoming American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) Health Care Facilities Innovation Conference from July 21-24!

Walt Vernon will join Mara Baum FAIA and Heather Burpee to discuss "Design Guides for Decarbonized Healthcare". This session will spotlight the latest design guides from the California Energy Commission and ASHRAE, focusing on the development of decarbonized hospitals. It aims to detail ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions in healthcare environments, outline strategies for constructing new decarbonized hospitals, explore model codes for jurisdictions aiming to decarbonize their building stock, and examine the impacts of operational and embodied carbon, including mitigation strategies.

Christina Sanborn will participate in a panel discussion with Allegra Wiesler on "How Different Healthcare Systems are Leveraging IRA Funding Sources". Learn how healthcare facilities can access funds for qualified projects. Hear from three healthcare organizations already evaluating and implementing projects eligible for investment tax credits. Panelists will share lessons learned, team-building strategies to address challenges, and essential financial metrics for discussing IRA opportunities with your financial department.

We can't wait to see you there!
