The City of Cynthiana, Kentucky - City Government, KY Police Chief Eric Kendall discovered the Avive Connect AED at a conference and made it his mission to equip all 20 patrol cars with Avive AEDs - funded by seized drug money.

In his own words, "It's a tool we haven't had before, and it's one that I didn't want to wait three years for. We could need it now, it could save a life. A lot of my officers were born and raised here. They have kids and raised them here. We have a vested interest in this."

The Cynthiana Police Department invested in AEDs to have in every patrol car in their fleet. AEDs create electric shock waves for people having a cardiac event.

Every 90 seconds, someone in the U.S. goes into cardiac arrest outside of a hospital. That's over 350,000 lives a year - and roughly 90% don't make it.

At Avive, we think about those numbers every day. They're the reason we do what we do.

Cardiac arrest happens when abnormal electrical activity causes the heart to stop without warning, and the window to act is measured in minutes. That's why bystander CPR matters so much: it can nearly double a victim's chance of survival. Paired with an AED, which analyzes heart rhythm and delivers a shock only when needed, an everyday person can become a lifesaver.

This National CPR and AED Awareness Week, we're asking you to take one step: get trained. Be prepared. Be the difference.

We were proud to have sponsored Heather Freligh's "Your Hands Can Save A Heart" CPR and AED training event in Stockton, CA. Heather's story is one we know well - at just 13 years old, she experienced sudden cardiac arrest at school, and it was an AED used by first responders that helped bring her back.

Now 16, Heather is channeling that experience into action, training hundreds of students and staff in hands-on CPR and AED skills alongside certified trainers. We're honored to have provided Avive AEDs for this training and to support advocates like Heather who are proving that the right tools - and the knowledge to use them - can truly save lives.

16-year-old Heather Freligh, with hopes of creating a “ripple effect,” is bringing CPR training and education to schools.

In August 2025, Jim Milsap was riding in a vehicle approaching the City of McKinney, Texas - Unique by Nature, TX, when he slumped over, unresponsive. His son pulled over, dragged his father from the car, and flagged down a bystander to call 911.

What happened next was not a matter of luck. It was the direct result of a decision the McKinney Police Department had made just months earlier: placing Avive Connect AEDs in every patrol vehicle and ensuring all officers were trained in CPR and AED use.

We built the Avive Connect AED because the survival rate for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest hadn't meaningfully improved in decades - and we knew a smarter, more connected device could change that. Our 4 Minute Community™ Program integrates directly with 911 to alert nearby trained community members, dispatching them to the scene before an ambulance arrives.

We've already seen this program save lives - and reliable partners like Sandisk help make that possible by providing the industrial-grade storage our devices need to perform flawlessly every time.

The 4 Minute Community™ model is Avive’s approach to improving cardiac arrest survival by turning the first critical minutes into a coordinated, community-driven response. Instead of relying solely on ambulances, the model connects 911 dispatch, nearby trained citizens, and connected AED devices...

In August 2025, 66-year-old Jim Milsap's heart stopped without warning while riding in a vehicle near the City of McKinney, Texas - Unique by Nature. The odds were not in his favor - but McKinney Police Department Officers Zac Hamilton and Sgt. Farrell Richie arrived first. And they were ready.

Every McKinney patrol vehicle had been equipped with an Avive Connect AED®. When seconds mattered most, they didn't have to wait for EMS to get started - they acted. Jim was defibrillated seven times, and he survived. This is what community-level preparedness looks like.
