The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) continues to drive a major wave of improvements across all nine campuses through its efforts to modernize and reshape community college facilities and the recent Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) event highlights just how transformative this work has become. Their projects across the district demonstrate a commitment to modernization, resilience, and long-term value for students and the community. The event also showcased LACCD’s broader mission to support students through housing initiatives, workforce development, and specialized programs – from culinary arts to civil engineering.

"As engineers, we don't always get to see the legacy in motion of our designs, events like this are a reminder that we should pause and remember our why. When Lisa Williams (LACCD’s Sustainability and Utility Program Manager) echoed a phrase, she once heard, '[y]ou can't manage what you can't measure,' it resonated with me. That's exactly how we should think about delivering real, lasting value on every project we touch,” said Mohammad Assaf, PBS Engineers Director of Electrical Engineering.

As an active engineering partner, PBS Engineers is proud to continue to support LACCD’s ongoing modernization efforts and our team remains committed to delivering innovative, sustainable, and technology-forward solutions that align with the district’s long-term vision. With a history of delivering MEP, Low Voltage, and Technology services for LACCD, PBS Engineers brings technical insight and a practical understanding of the evolving infrastructure needs.

A Successful Partner Evening That Took Flight!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the networking event in DTLA, hosted by PBS Engineers, Inc., Make Good Company, WMG, Landrum & Brown, and Krueck Sexton Partners.

We are so grateful to all who spent the evening with us at Pine & Crane during the AAAE Conference & Exposition. From making new connections to reconnecting with familiar faces, the evening set a strong foundation for the days ahead at AAAE.

We were proud to host the event at Pine & Crane, a women-owned restaurant that represents the diverse local businesses we’re committed to highlighting and introducing to our colleagues visiting Los Angeles. Spotlighting local businesses is central to how we at PBS strengthen our community, and we were grateful for the chance to share this space with our aviation clients and partners. Moments like this show just how much our relationships and expertise drive our aviation projects and the direction we’re headed next!

At PBS Engineers, Inc. , we believe that health is not only personal—it is built into the spaces where life happens. It lives in the hospitals that support healing, the schools that foster growth, and the environments that bring people together every day. The work we do goes beyond systems and structures; it shapes the experience of those who rely on these spaces to feel safe, supported, and well.

From healthcare facilities to educational campuses and community environments, each project is an opportunity to contribute to something greater. Thoughtful engineering creates spaces that promote comfort, resilience, and overall well-being, impacting not just individuals, but entire communities.

Providing WOW Through Service means designing with people at the center of everything we do. Today, on World Health Day, we are reminded that the environments we help create play a meaningful role in building a healthier future for all!

There’s a shift happening in how buildings are designed, and at PBS Engineers, Inc., we’re leaning into it.

For a long time, performance and efficiency were things evaluated later in the design process. Today, that approach is no longer enough. The real impact happens earlier, when ideas are still flexible, when decisions carry more weight, and when the opportunity to truly shape outcomes is at its highest.

In our latest article, “Designing Smarter, Earlier,” Joseph Scribner, PE highlights how our team is embracing that shift through the use of advanced energy modeling tools. By bringing these tools into the earliest phases of design, we’re able to test ideas, simulate performance, and guide decisions with intention ,not assumption.

This is what it means to rise to the occasion at PBS. By integrating smarter tools into our process and work, we continue to elevate the level of service we provide and the impact we make for our clients and communities.

This article is a part of our new series, The WOW Factor—where we’ll continue to highlight the people, ideas, and innovations driving PBS Engineers, Inc. forward.

You can expect more insights from our team as we share how we’re delivering WOW through service in real, tangible ways!
