Our employee spotlight for January focuses on Anna Neubauer, our intern architect. As a member of the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA), Anna is part of an international and interdisciplinary community striving to create positive change in design practice and education for the benefit of human health. Let's get to know her a little better.
1. What made you decide to go into architecture/design?
I've always had a very analytical mind, and growing up, while my brothers were off playing video games, I was hyper-focused building lego models and going off the books with my lincoln-logs. My grandpa was also a home builder and I remember always being so intrigued by his blueprints. He loved that his only granddaughter was the aspiring architect out of all his grandsons.
2. What has been your biggest inspiration for design?
I think I've always been most inspired by people. I am an avid observer, always intrigued by how individuals interact with their surroundings. In essence, my designs emerge from the synthesis of human psychology, functional considerations, and the timeless wisdom inherent in nature, creating spaces that are not just visually appealing but deeply resonate with the occupants and the surrounding environment.
3. We know you love to travel. What's been your favorite place you've ever been?
My favorite place I’ve been so far is Lucerne, Switzerland—it’s a perfect blend of natural beauty, old-world charm, and modern allure. From medieval landmarks to contemporary architecture, set against the surrealistically clear water of Lake Lucerne and the snow-peaked Swiss Alps in the distance, it's incredible.
4. Give us a flavor of what's on your Spotify wrapup?
A fusion of indie rock with the indietronica, according to Spotify.
5. What advice do you have for aspiring young designers/architects?
My advice is to embrace and follow your curiosity relentlessly. Don't shy away from the unknown; the pursuit of knowledge and the courage to explore the unexplored will not only shape your designs but also define your unique voice in the world of architecture and design.
