As PMI looks forward to celebrating 50 years as a fixture and contributor to the San Diego business community, we look forward to continuing to partner with other local businesses as well as national and international entities. We recognize the importance of supporting the communities we serve and are proud to be affiliated with the South County Career Center and San Diego City College’s Machining School to promote a new generation of craftsmen and keeping manufacturing alive in the USA.
Jack King, who had been the owner of the company since the late 60's, officially retired in 2004 and passed the torch on to his son Roger Kerr. As a new owner, Roger's first order of business was to grow their customer base which meant looking at new markets to pursue. In the subsequent years the business widened its focus to include the mass transit, aerospace and energy industries. As 2007 approached, Roger was focusing more and more time on his passion for restoring classic American automobiles and decided to sell the business to Raymundo Montalvo, his most trusted master toolmaker. In August of that year, the Montalvo family officially took over the day-to-day operations of the company with the goal of growing it further. In 2012, the Montalvos purchased a 20,000 sq. building in Otay Mesa and moved PMI to its new home. With the addition of several more conventional machines, 3 CNC’s, an indoor welding area, custom wood box and palette shop, load test facility and dedicated QC room – PMI was growing and ready to tackle its next challenge. In November of 2013, PMI was awarded the very first San Diego Workforce Improvement Bureau (WIB) Grant, to assist in facilitating their ISO and AS9100 certification. Over the next year, PMI refined its existing quality policies and practices and in December of 2014, they received their ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100C certification from DNV.
