Today is Purple Heart Day.

The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the Armed Forces who were wounded or killed by enemy actions while serving our country.

It is a medal given not for achievement but in honor of sacrifice. It denotes one of the highest respects we as a country bestow on our heroes.

To this day, almost 2 million Purple Heart Medals have been awarded, many posthumously.

Today, please take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of the men and women who have been awarded the Purple Heart while serving and fighting to defend our freedoms.
