For the Spotted Donkey restaurant remodel in Phoenix, AZ, RICK used 3D laser scanning to capture the existing interior and exterior conditions of the site and give the project team a detailed digital view of the space before renovation even begins.

The project deliverables included point clouds, 360° site imagery, and an interactive Reality Portal viewer, giving the project team detailed existing conditions and verifying HVAC VAV box locations above each level.

The more teams know before construction begins, the fewer surprises they run into later. Take a look behind the scenes at the restaurant in detailed digital model form.

Over 100 participants gathered for the annual RICK Activities Committee (RAC) Golf Tournament at Rancho Bernardo Inn, where the Four Aces took home the overall championship with our very own Tony Gonzalez as part of the winning team.
Can’t beat an opportunity to spend time together outside the office and have a little friendly competition, especially on such a beautiful day on the course.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize and support, with a special shout-out to our Ambassadors of Fun for keeping the energy up throughout the day. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Both of our Colorado offices recently took some time for a little friendly competition outside the office 🏎️🎳

The Centennial team headed to Colorado Karting Circuit for a Grand Prix-style event, where the team spent the afternoon competing on the 0.8-mile course. Nick's brother Daniel De Souza ultimately took the top spot!

Our Arvada team had a blast at Wheat Ridge Lanes, spending the evening bowling and catching up together.

Thanks to everyone who helped make these events happen. We always enjoy opportunities to connect and spend time together outside the office.

Taking us over to Avondale, Arizona, for a look at Norton Circle Apartments from RICK’s Phoenix Civil Division.
The project transformed a 46-unit public housing site into a new 100-unit affordable housing redevelopment across six residential buildings, more than doubling the number of available units. Developed through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, the community includes a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units designed to increase access to affordable housing in Avondale.

RICK was proud to provide civil engineering services and be part of bringing additional housing to the Avondale community.

Earlier this spring our Centennial office got outside for their third annual community cleanup day and a two-part RICK Activities Committee (RAC) celebration.
Team members spent time helping clean up the surrounding area before heading back to the office for the second half of the event, where they spent the afternoon painting terra cotta pots and planting succulents to brighten up their workspaces.

Thanks to our Centennial team for helping make our corner of the Earth a little greener 🌎

Planning can sometimes feel inaccessible to the communities most affected by it.

Over time, Brian Mooney began dedicating more of his work to pro-bono planning assistance work, using his experience to help communities navigate planning challenges and think through their long-term priorities.

One example brought him to South Oroville, a Northern California community with a long history of disinvestment and aging infrastructure. Through community meetings, the project focused on priorities ranging from sidewalks and street lighting to longer-term community improvements like community spaces.

As Brian enters semi-retirement, read more about his career and the communities he continues to support at the link in our bio or by heading over to rickengineering.com/news 🔗

Riverside, CA 📍

The new SPC. Jesus S. Duran Eastside Library is underway at Bobby Bonds Park in Riverside’s Eastside community.

The 15,000-square-foot, single-story library will create a permanent home for a branch that has served generations of residents and began as the Eastside Cybrary, a satellite location focused on increasing digital access and community resources.

RICK is proud to provide civil engineering services for the project and support the delivery of a new community resource for Riverside’s Eastside.

Expected to open in 2027, the new facility will extend library services while creating additional opportunities for learning and community programming.
