MAKE SURE TO BUY 3M ONLY!
EVA FOAM PSA:

over the last 12yrs or so ive installed a lot of "turf". The industry has blown up over that time & not only do you have unlimited options & investment levels but there's also extreme differences in quantity.

The main difference if adhesive. Always buy sheet material with adhesive backing; its crazy how fast you can lay down this stuff if you're not dealing with carpet flooring compound. But here lies the issue. Some of these EVA foam suppliers print a stolen 3M logo on their inferior adhesive. 3M is black & about 1/32 thick. If you're shopping & its not black or not from a actual brand you've heard of before just know its gonna last about 6 months in the bowfishing world & 18months on a typical fishing boat.

This is the worst experience ive had with foam & I let "the look" get the better of me. The adhesive looks like wet masking tape & it performs about the same. The sun heats up foam & part of its job is containing expansion. If it cant, guess what, it separates from the adhesive. You can spray it with 3M90 but that only prolongs the inevitable. Im gonna let the highway & the marsh destroy this stuff & dread the day i have to attempt to remove it.

If you've had an opportunity to be on a airboat or a fan during actual fishing they're just loud enough to be a burden & minimize communication. The best way to Break-up the noise is with some music but that's also a huge hurdle on a boat.

Over my years & dozens of sound systems installed into boats there's always a disconnect from expectations & reality.

Years ago you had to have a head unit, possibility a amplifier, lots of wiring, & definitely a hardwired connection to either a phone or a mp3 device. Nowadays I try to avoid ALL of that!

Wires are ugly & take time. Amps are heavy, expensive & require space. Head units are also a thing of the past because of Bluetooth & your ability to control a system from your phone.

The biggest issue with "marine sound" is there's budget "beach sound" & then there's "loud enough to hear while on pad." While it's pretty common to have decent sound from $200 investment its definitely coming up short when fuel is being burned! Typically that requires AMPS, more $, & a lot of planning on installation. I've installed $2k stereo systems with a sub & 1400w going to multiple speakers & that system was impressive loud! But thats definitely not for most aluminum boat owners trying to save space, weight, & ball on a budget.

Pro tip: To maximize volume out of any stereo system on a boat install speakers between you & the engine & point them directly at the passengers.

After building my new fan I wanted to add some sound. While there are some great soundbar options most of them are weak power levels. My console grab bar prevents the mounting of most soundbars so the seach switched to wakeboard speakers.... that immediately went over budget.

"I just need something super loud!" - I thought, as I remembered a few dresser motorcycles that drive by every summer & began my online search.... here's what im looking for:
●Small compact
●1.5" bar mountable
●Amp included 500w minimum
●Bluetooth
● in a kit

Here's what I found:
https://www.autozone.com/p/boss-audio-audio-system-mcbk470b/1078951

Each speaker has about 6' of wire that i ran inside the grab bar (hardest part). The amp is pretty wired & I ran it to the fuse panel. There's a on/off- power k**b that mounted in the dash in a single 1/4" hole.
●At 1000w its pretty dam loud
●At $135 its CHEAP!
●Super compact
●No holes to drill
●pre-wired w/controller
I think the Pros out weigh the Cons here; the worst of it being "cable organization" which is either gonna be zip-ties or electrical tape. I ran all 4 wires into a single hole right in the middle under side of the grab bar.

Kinda afraid to turn it on. . . Cause I already am. 😊

After burning through 3 portabands in 5yrs I figured it was time for a upgrade with space being the biggest factor. On paper this lil'guy sounds amazing & comes with way more stuff than I need: speed fence, miter fence, laser, 50⁰tilt table, variable speed, led, dust tray, & a floor stand (that i quickly threw away).

Made more for harder metals it will run way slower than I need but at 265fpm max it's supposed to be good for aluminum.
3/4hp, 120v, 10" with 72" blades, max cut 9.625×6" all for under $700 & of all places it shipped free to Home Depot.

What are you building?
What part was hard or made you the happiest?

For me the best is looking at a finished product & not seeing a last minute decision.
"The afterthought" can really trash up a project but a decent build that is neatly put together is far more appealing to look at. Its a direct reflection of the builder's attention to detail. Yeah good welding is important but a good plan cant be covered up no matter how much paint is thrown on top.

That little 1.5"×2"×3" box contains my ignition & kill system. 1 switch provides power to a fuel pump, accent lighting, carb solenoid, & the start button. In the "off" position it closes the carb solenoid & grounds the coils. No key to lose, break, or fail. Ergonomically located & provides a simple shutdown in a emergency. Most wont take the time to look at the small things but as you know; on a boat the small things are huge.
