During ROMP’s first mobile clinic in Lago Agrio, Ecuador, evaluated Daniel, a devoted father of two and a Venezuelan migrant determined to build a better life for his family.

For years, he and his wife have fought tirelessly for their daughter, Ashley, who was born with myelomeningocele. Every sacrifice was made with one hope: that she might one day walk.

Then, a door opened.

Ashley was offered the opportunity to travel to the United States for a medical evaluation.

But just one day before their departure, Daniel was involved in a serious accident that led to the amputation of his leg. In an instant, everything changed.

Yet Daniel chose hope. Grateful to be alive, he returned to work and focused on what mattered most, his family. His dream is simple: to walk again, to play soccer with his son, and to continue fighting for Ashley’s future.

Because someone chose to care, Daniel will soon stand again, with the strength to care for his family, the dignity to move forward, and the hope to keep fighting for his daughter’s future.

For 23 years, Beltrán has carried a quiet kind of bravery, the kind that comes from loving your family more than your own comfort.

He is a 49-year-old father from San Miguel Uspantán, Quiché, a rural community surrounded by mountains and long, winding roads. His life changed in an instant when, while cutting a tree, a falling trunk crushed his leg. The amputation that followed was devastating, and accepting that loss became one of the hardest moments of his life.

But Beltrán is a provider. A husband. A father. A man who believes his family’s well-being depends on his ability to keep going. So, he did what few could imagine: he built his own prosthesis out of wood. It was heavy, painful, it bruised and burned his skin, but it allowed him to work.

For years, he endured that pain in silence, taking any job he could find, farming, construction, whatever it took to keep food on the table. Stopping was never an option.

When he learned about through Facebook, something shifted: hope. And even though the journey to Guatemala City takes six to seven hours on a good day, he made the trip with determination, holding onto one simple dream: to work without pain.

On March 2, 2026, that dream became reality. Beltrán received his first professionally made prosthesis. The moment he stood, everything changed.

The weight he had carried for decades, physical and emotional, began to lift. For the first time in years, he could imagine moving with comfort, working with dignity, and returning home to his children without the exhaustion of constant pain.

For Beltrán, this prosthesis is not just a device. It is dignity restored. It is relief after years of suffering. It is the chance to keep providing for the family he loves with all his heart.

Evelyn, a 24-year-old mother from Amatitlán, Guatemala, has faced medical challenges her entire life. Born with spina bifida, she endured many surgeries before losing both legs below the knee at age 16 due to osteomyelitis. Today, she is also battling serious kidney problems, all while raising her 11-year-old son as a single mother.

Before her amputations, Evelyn worked as a manicurist and dreamed of rebuilding her small business by visiting clients in their homes. But without prosthetic legs, she depended entirely on her parents, who work long hours at a small shop in a market in Guatemala City.

After eight years of waiting, everything changed on March 2, when Evelyn finally received her prosthesis from . Standing again marked the beginning of a new chapter, one filled with hope, independence, and the possibility of returning to her clients’ homes to offer manicure services once more.

For Evelyn, her new prosthetic legs are more than mobility devices. They are her chance to reclaim dignity, stability, and a future she has fought for with extraordinary courage.
