Very simple but effective upgrade. The compound on these Harbor Freight lathes deflect really bad when parting so I made a simple “plinth block” as some seem to call it to replace the compound slide. 2”x2” 6061 aluminum milled down to 39mm (seemed to be the distance I needed) and drilled and counterbored some holes to bolt it to the original location of the compound. Then drilled and tapped an M10-1.5 hole for the original QCTP. Tested and works tremendously better! Seemed to see zero deflection on a quick parting operation! Excellent results for an hour job!

These are the main machines I use to do my creating. There is a DIY CNC Router (40"x18"), a Techno Isel Davinci (12"x8.5"), a DIY 5 Axis (6"x6"), a Emco Compact 5 (2.5" Swing), and my original mini cnc router (12"x8"). They all have their purpose and I have really enjoyed using all of them over the years!!
