Hey there, Compost Champions!
Summer is almost here! ☀️ We’ve got some easy (and fun!) tips to keep your compost bin fresh, bug-free, and odor-free all season long.
Is your bin already stinky and you need our assistance? Here are some options for you that can be ordered through the shop in your compost account:
Order Smell Good Spray - A microbial deodorizer that immediately destroys common odors associated "solid waste" like "garbage". It deodorizes without leaving a perfume smell.
Order Clean Cart Swap - We will take your gross bin and drop off a clean one.
Order More Landscape or Kitchen Liners - You buy the bags and we will deliver for free the next time we service.

1. Keep It Dry, Keep It Fresh
Liquid is the #1 culprit for stinky bins and those creepy little bugs that look like walking rice - yuck! So, the goal here is dryness! After we service your bin, we’ll leave the lid open to let it dry out. Pro tip: If you can, close the lid or dump any liquid down the sewer to keep things fresh. If the rain decides to help out, just think of it as a free rinse for your bin. 🍃💧
2. Bag It Up & Seal It Tight
Before tossing your food scraps, make sure they’re sealed up in a bag so insects can’t get a taste of your contribution. Bonus points if you refrigerate or freeze your scraps before you toss them! 🥒❄️
3. Evening Prep = Morning Success
Contribute to your compost bin the night before collection so you’re all set when we roll by. Plus, don’t forget to put your bin out for EVERY pick-up, even if it’s just one little bag. We love seeing your bin all ready to go! 🚛🌱
4. Yard Work Hacks
Loosely throw some leaves or yard material at the bottom of your bin to absorb any extra liquids. Also, pop napkins or paper towels in your kitchen bin to soak up any moisture while your scraps chill in the kitchen. 🌿🍂
5. Line ‘Em Up
For ultimate bin protection, line your outside bin with a landscape bag and use an internal paper liner for your kitchen collection. It’s like a cozy blanket for your compost! 🛏️🗑️
6. Time for a Bin Rinse
If you’re feeling like your bin could use a little TLC, rinse it out with some white vinegar or dish soap. Swish it around and dump the water down the sewer. Nice and clean! 🧼✨
7. Avoid the Stinky Stuff
Some items, while acceptable for composting with us, might be a bit too much for your compost bin. These bad boys should be avoided:
Grass clippings (they can stick to the bin and trap moisture)
Meat & dairy (not compost-friendly!)
High-liquid fruits and veggies, like watermelon (super squishy, super wet!)
Happy planting!
