If you need an air compressor for your fiber laser, but you don't have 3-phase power, what can you do? Before, you may consider a phase converter. But it is costly and usually won't last very long.

We have a solution for you!

A 1.5MPa output, single-phase VFD screw compressor is available from us

The cost of using an Air compressor is much lower than that of nitrogen for fiber laser cutting. It cuts 4-5 times faster than oxygen or nitrogen.

You may not know that a full K tank of nitrogen can last about 23 minutes without stopping, cutting stainless steel. A full T tank costs roughly $45. Overall, the operation cost per hour is $135/hour. But a 10 HP air compressor costs roughly 7 kWh. On average, it costs about $3-$4 per hour. Did I do the math right?! 😱

In general, nitrogen is used as a gas for stainless steel and aluminum laser cutting. But with higher-pressure air (75% nitrogen + 15% oxygen), a fiber laser can cut 3-5 times faster. The only drawback is that cutting with air will leaves a darker cutting edge, while nitrogen leaves a silver color.

Fun to watch it!

I have tried to find a parameter for the 10mm carbon steel, but after 2 days, I still haven't found anything good. It shows wrinkles on the cut. I believe I have cut over 100x samples!

But when it was made with 12mm harder steel, it was a perfect cut. I forgot to mention that there was oxidation and rust on both sides of the 10mm, even though I had it polished with a power tool. But the surface still looks brown.

My conclusion: not all metal is laser fans. Some cut well while others cut loosely, no matter how much time is spent on it. Rust is an enermy of the fiber laser. It will affect the cutting quality 😏

SMARTSHOP® LASER LCB laser machine keeps resetting itself while firing. Why and how to fix it?

The Ruida controller will lock itself up if any limit switch is triggered while running a job. Not all wires are shielded, and they suffered interference from the electromagnetic field of the laser HV cable, which runs alongside all wires in parallel.

Solution: Changing the controller seems to work. But replacing all wires with shielded wires is necessary!

Finally, the retrofitting of the FSL MUSE is completed, and a laser fire-up test gone smoothly.

Difficulty: 8.0/10
- dual limited switches
- dual voltage: the main 24V for the controller and drivers, + 5V for hall effect limited switches, and water flow sensor
- dual Y motors (Y1/Y2)

About this Job ( Like & unlike)

Unlike:
-too much wires, terminals, and limited space to install the controllers and other components
- The charge is not justified. Taken too much time on this project.

Like:
-My idea works well: custom-made “level-shaft” board and unknown challenge. Feeling good after conquering all issues.

FSL Muse Retrofiting with a DSP laser controller to run Lightburn - Fire up test! (Final)

04/27/2026

After a long path to get the wiring figured out (with the Trocen 7824 controller), the retrofiting of the FSL Muse is getting close to firing up the test. I can finish the job tomorrow.

The difficulty of upgrading the Muse is figuring out how to implement dual Y motors (Y1, Y2) with dual limit switches.
