Excel Energy Group

Excel Energy Group Excel specializes in energy efficient lighting upgrades for K-12, higher education, government, hosp

In 1992, founder and CEO Scotty Caroom set out to change the way schools used energy in the mid-south. From the beginning, it was “my ambition to achieve two goals in our business—to furnish kids a better learning environment with enhanced lighting and to save schools money,” states Scotty. So, for the last nearly 30 years, Excel Energy Group has met and exceeded those two goals with over 1900 dis

tricts throughout the United States. However, the company has evolved over the years to service higher education, government, healthcare, commercial, industrial, and retail projects as well. Our mission and vision has evolved through our continued growth as well. While we remain dedicated to those two goals, we have expanded our scope. We are committed to saving any organization (not just schools) money through customized energy efficient solutions while simultaneously reducing their carbon footprint. Furthermore, by using cutting-edge lighting technologies, we can improve working and learning environments by supplying cleaner, whiter, more natural looking light that requires less energy (and therefore less money) to obtain. We are so confident in our ability to save you money that we contractually guarantee your savings—if your decreased energy bills do not pay for the entire cost of the project, we will repay the difference. Our company is committed to excellence in energy efficiency. It is our sole desire to help organizations save more money, use less energy, emit less pollution, and help provide optimal learning and working environments for all of our clients. That is why our customers remain our most credible marketing resource—their positive experiences with Excel Energy Group’s dedication to excellence help our products sell themselves. We sincerely hope that your organization will choose to enjoy our customized, turnkey approach to your energy efficiency needs.

Our guys headed down to Marble Falls last week to answer some lingering questions and finalize our work for the school district. They came back with nothing but good things to say about the staff. Everyone was great to work with, and you could really tell how much they care about their students. Thanks again for having us, Marble Falls ISD! 👋

It was a great year for Excel; we've grown a lot and anticipate growing even more. At our end-of-year luncheon, we saw Levi Ketcherside receive the annual Del Heck Award for his outstanding work and dedication. Thank you, Levi, for everything you do! We are incredibly proud of our team and are excited for another amazing year of growth, collaboration, and success in 2025.

Here's to what's ahead!💡

Team Excel gathered together for Christmas lunch this week and celebrated a record year for the company.

April Nason was the first recipient of the Del Heck award. This award recognizes Teamwork, Diligence, Sacrifice, Loyalty, Friendship, and Optimisim. April was the first employee of the company other than David and Scotty. 17 years ago she reported to work in a small extra office of a local attorney. Over the years, she put up with a few moves until we landed at our current office/warehouse. She has taken on many new responsibilities as we grew over the years, and now manages our business. We would not be where we are today if it were not for April’s dedication and leadership to our company. Thank you April!

Team EEG gathered for our annual Christmas Party and honored one of our favorites. Del Heck announced his retirement (again) and this time he really seems to mean it. Del has been with us for over 20 years. Starting as an installation technician and earning his way up through the design team and ultimately on to the Sales team. His dedication to teamwork, diligence, sacrifice, loyalty, friendship, and optimism were celebrated at the Christmas party. We also surprised him with the establishment of “The Del Heck Award” which will be presented annually to an employee who illustrates these characteristics.

We have greatly enjoyed each of the 20+ years with Del and we wish him all the best in his retirement and family time!

We are excited to be working with Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools! This summer, KCKPS partnered with Excel Energy Group to upgrade lighting district-wide to LED technology. The new lighting is guaranteed to save the district $849,368 annually and $21 million in cumulative savings over the life of the system. The energy savings are contractually guaranteed to cover the entire cost of the project. Excel is focused on maximizing energy savings while optimizing district light levels in the most financially efficient manner. At KCKPS, roughly 44,000 interior and exterior light fixtures are being upgraded to new LED technology. Occupancy sensors are installed to reduce hours of operation during unoccupied times, resulting in even greater savings. Let us know if Excel can be of value to your district!

Project installation is under way! Similar to many districts across the country, Canutillo Independent School District (located 15 miles northwest of downtown El Paso, TX) is tasked with improving older facilities, managing increased utility costs, and planning for financial uncertainty. In order to address these areas, Canutillo ISD is partnering with Excel Energy Group, a turnkey, specialized lighting company, to ensure students have a “bright” future by investing into a new LED lighting system. Canutillo will pay zero out of pocket costs for this project, as the savings in energy and maintenance are contractually guaranteed by Excel to cover the cost of the project. The upgrade is expected to generate $211,432 in annual savings and $5.2 million in cumulative savings over the lifespan of the LED system. Let us know if Excel can be of value to your district! Go Canutillo!
