Yesterday just before 6pm, Royalston Fire Department personnel were alerted to respond Mutual Aid into The Town Of Orange MA for the 5 acre brush fire. Royalston Fire Department Brush 1 along with other first arriving crews from multiple towns geared up and began to hike into the woods to find the fire. Shortly after, it was confirmed that approximately 8 acres were burning. All crews worked together to create fire lines to control the fire before returning to quarters for the night. This morning RFD crews returned to Orange to assist in day 2, where crews worked to create deep fire lines and hit hot spots around the entire perimeter of the fire in order to contain the spread. At approximately 12pm RFD and other departments were released per command. Crews from Company 26 returned to quarters and put all equipment back in service for the next call. In total, the Royalston Crew operated for approximately 9 hours between both days. Special thank you to Orange, MA Fire Rescue EMS and all other agencies involved in fire suppression and support efforts!

Last week members from the department had a chance to train on the newly acquired vehicle stabilization struts and cribbing. These new tools will help enhance the departments capabilities on motor vehicle incidents that occur often within the town. This new equipment was obtained earlier this year through a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services. Finally, special thank you to Dean Ericson from Firematic for coming out and training crews on the equipment as well as Dale's Towing for providing a vehicle to practice with. Trainings like these highlight the importance of being prepared for all emergencies that crews may respond too.

Yesterday afternoon, Royalston responded to a brush fire that had rekindled from the previous day, with Brush 1, Tanker 2, Engine 2, Brush 2, and Car 1 responding. A notable aspect of Royalston's firefighting capabilities is its numerous fire ponds, one of which was utilized yesterday to draft water to fill our tanker.
