This is the new Oticon Zeal. This is the first time since January 2013 that I have felt like a new hearing aid was a significant improvement over the previous editions. After wearing them for three months I think the main improvements come down to three things: 1) All I've ever worn are the small RICs that go behind your ear w/the tiny speaker down inside your ear canal. Some I've liked better than others, but none of them really bothered me. BUT... having everything down is your ear is more comfortable, less aggravating w/my glasses, and they don't flop around when I'm crawling under a piece of equipment or under my desk. 2) Secondly, there is much less wind noise with the entire aid down in my ear. 3) Finally, there is much less background noise, partly because of the technology and largely due to the pinna effect. Which is a clinical way of saying the way God designs our ears naturally filters out some background noise and RICs up on top of the ears lose the advantages of that design.

This product was launched at the end of January and I’ve been wearing a pair since February 2 and I love them. I’m surprised at how much I love them. Rechargeable, almost invisible, all the Bluetooth connectivity that we like in a hearing aid that fits completely down in your ear canal. Mondays are Fundays, in large part because I spend them inside Orchard Eye Clinic in Bolivar. The staff is great and when I needed a new pair of glasses Dr. Sechler took extra time and care to make sure I had what I needed. Glasses are not just glasses and I see better than I feel like I ought to be able to see. Which is kind of weird and awesome at the same time, if you know what I mean. One of our patients usually brings his granddaughter with him when he comes in for an appointment. The first time she was here (she was 3) she was hiding behind his leg. Kathy made friends with her and now she’s excited and anxious to come back up here with him. This is a little artwork they did last Friday.

Since Brandon is calling for 11-15” of snow we are canceling all of our appointments in Lebanon today. If he was only calling for 8–10” we’d make a day of it but you have to draw the line somewhere. We will be reaching out to reschedule later today.

Many of our patients are aware that we had a death in the family on Sept. 1. We were out of the office for two weeks and we are currently playing catch up. Returning calls, getting repairs back to patients, etc. We apologize if we haven't touched base with you yet but we are working our day down the list of calls to return. Thank you for your patience.
