Public construction is holding up. Private non-residential is pulling back.

The latest U.S. construction spending data shows a clear split in 2026.

Public construction is up 1.7% YoY, while private non-residential is down 3.3%. Highway and street construction is performing even stronger at +4.5%.

FHWA BIM for Infrastructure: Why Digital As-Builts and Lifecycle Data Are Getting More Attention

Infrastructure projects generate enormous amounts of digital information. The harder question is: what happens to that information after construction?

FHWA’s latest information-collection effort puts attention on electronic QA data, digital as-builts, geospatial information, BIM for infrastructure, and how project data can remain useful beyond delivery.

The industry challenge is increasingly about interoperability and continuity. A model, inspection record, or as-built dataset has limited lifecycle value if the next team cannot reliably interpret, exchange, or connect it to asset-management systems.

This is not a new federal BIM mandate. It is a useful signal of where the conversation is heading: toward infrastructure information that is more standardized, traceable, and usable throughout the asset lifecycle.

Structural BIM Modeling and Coordination Services for a 225,000 SF Project in Washington, DC

What does it take to coordinate a 225,000 SF structure before construction reaches the field? For the Signal House project in Washington, DC, Tejjy developed an LOD 350 structural BIM model built around construction-level details. Rebar was modeled to identify congestion. Slab edges were coordinated. Structural clashes were resolved before they became field issues. Quantities were extracted directly from the coordinated model. The result: better structural coordination, more reliable model data, and less guesswork on site.
