1 in 6 bacterial infections worldwide are now resistant to antibiotics. ๐ฆ โ ๏ธ
That's the headline from the World Health Organization's latest global surveillance report โ and it's not a distant problem. Between 2018 and 2023, resistance rose in over 40% of the antibiotic-pathogen combinations WHO monitors. For two of the most common causes of bloodstream infections, E. coli and K. pneumoniae, more than 40% and 55% (respectively) are now resistant to the antibiotics doctors would normally reach for first.
WHO's message is clear: fighting antimicrobial resistance starts with better, faster diagnostics. You can't treat what you can't identify โ and you can't know which antibiotics will actually work without proper susceptibility testing.
This is where microbiology labs are on the front line. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing โ using culture media, test discs, and analyzer supplies โ is how clinicians and researchers determine which treatments will actually work against a given infection, instead of guessing.
At Dabos, we carry a full range of microbiology analyzer accessories and supplies, including antimicrobial susceptibility test discs and prepared culture media, to help labs stay ahead of this growing challenge.
