Why can't the EPA regulate microplastics in your drinking water yet? The answer isn't politics — it's instrumentation. 🧪🔬

In July 2026, the EPA proposed new national monitoring for PFAS and other emerging contaminants — but notably left microplastics off the list. Not because they aren't a priority (they're already on the EPA's watch list, backed by a $144 million federal research initiative), but because no validated, standardized test method exists yet for detecting microplastics in drinking water with the accuracy regulators require.

This is where chromatography and mass spectrometry come in. Techniques like LC-MS/MS (liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry) are considered the gold standard for identifying trace contaminants at the molecular level — and developing a validated microplastics method depends entirely on having the right analytical instrumentation in labs across the country.

We're honored to share that DABOS has been featured in the press for a project we're incredibly proud of. 🏟️⚾

Together with the Montgomery Biscuits and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, we helped bring "Fields Of Change" to life — a permanent exhibit at DABOS Park exploring how Black baseball became a catalyst for the civil rights movement in Alabama and across the country.

Housed inside a beautifully preserved, century-old train shed, the exhibit features 12 immersive installations honoring legendary Alabama players including Willie Mays and Hank Aaron, along with the story of the Grey Sox — presented with guidance from historian Charlie Vascellaro and designed by Birmingham's Squires Group.

As DABOS President David McNairy put it: "Players met segregation and injustice with talent, perseverance and dignity. I want every fan who walks through the gates of DABOS Park to embrace and reflect upon these powerful stories and their place in American history."

The exhibit is open to the public during every Biscuits home game, right here at DABOS Park — the ballpark we're proud to call our naming rights partner.

This isn't about lab supplies today. It's about the responsibility we feel to invest in our community and its history.

1 in 6 bacterial infections worldwide are now resistant to antibiotics. 🦠⚠️

That's the headline from the World Health Organization's latest global surveillance report — and it's not a distant problem. Between 2018 and 2023, resistance rose in over 40% of the antibiotic-pathogen combinations WHO monitors. For two of the most common causes of bloodstream infections, E. coli and K. pneumoniae, more than 40% and 55% (respectively) are now resistant to the antibiotics doctors would normally reach for first.

WHO's message is clear: fighting antimicrobial resistance starts with better, faster diagnostics. You can't treat what you can't identify — and you can't know which antibiotics will actually work without proper susceptibility testing.
