Carolina Skygazers The Carolina SkyGazers is an amateur astronomy club located in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

We mentioned last night that a trip to Doughton Park, on Blue Ridge Parkway was being considered for tonight. Looking at forecasts from several sources we have decided to cancel our trip. My rule is not to drive longer than I think I can observe. (Same rule for fishing!)

Look closely at this picture. Take the time to zoom in to all corners of this picture and look at the galaxies. In this field of view, there could be over 700 galaxies. A galaxy is a large grouping of stars that could be anywhere from 100 to 500 billion stars. Much like our own Milky Way galaxy. Those small oval blobs in the picture are somewhere between 300 and 400 million light years away. Imagine the vastness of it and the unimaginable amount of time encompassed in this picture.
