Congratulations to the Village of Penn Yan on being recognized with the American Public Works Association New York Chapter – Genesee Valley Branch Project of the Year Award in the Structures: Small Cities/Rural Communities category for the Lake Street Park Improvements Project.

This award recognizes the Village’s leadership and vision for revitalizing its waterfront. The project transforms this centrally located green space into a more welcoming, accessible waterfront destination with a new playground, dock, landing area, and ADA-accessible walking path.

Fisher was proud to support the Village by developing a cohesive design that reflects local materials and ecological themes and strengthens connections between the waterfront, trails, and village core.

Fisher Associates was founded in 1984 by Claire Fisher, PE. What began as a certified Women Owned Business Enterprise grew into a thriving, nationally recognized consulting firm built on expertise, resilience, and leadership.

Today, under the leadership of our CEO, Roseann (Bills) Schmid, P.E., that foundation continues to guide how we grow our people, serve our clients, and lead with purpose.

As winter snow settles across campus and students begin the spring semester, we’re reflecting on sunnier days at SUNY Brockport in Brockport, New York.

As part of campus infrastructure improvement projects, Fisher Associates served as the landscape architect, designing outdoor spaces that responded to and complemented necessary infrastructure upgrades. Our work focused on improving accessibility, strengthening pedestrian connections, and enhancing everyday student and campus life. Our long-standing partnership with SUNY Brockport gives us a strong understanding of the campus environment and its long-term priorities.

This work is part of Fisher’s higher education practice and decades of experience designing landscapes that bring people together and create a stronger sense of place. We’re proud to continue supporting SUNY Brockport and contributing to a campus experience built for today and planned for the future.

Fisher Associates is proud to support the Meals on Wheels America’s Warmest Wishes Program in Rochester. This week, our team gathered several boxes of non-perishable food items, helping bring comfort and care to older adults in our community during the holiday season.

Each December, Meals on Wheels delivers Warmest Wishes bags as a heartfelt reminder that our community cares and that no one is forgotten. We’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful tradition and help brighten the season for our neighbors.

When Fisher first partnered with New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation in 2021 to create the Hamlin Beach Strategic Plan, we shared a collective vision: to reimagine one of Lake Ontario’s most beloved shoreline destinations in a way that celebrates nature, enhances resilience, and enriches the visitor experience.

Our team approached the Hamlin Beach vision with care and collaboration—honoring the park’s history while planning for its next chapter. Together with NYS Parks, our planners, landscape architects, and engineers designed spaces that celebrate the natural beauty of Lake Ontario and adapt gracefully to its dynamic shoreline. The project was presented with an Honor Award for Planning and Analysis by Upstate ASLA in 2022.

As implementation moves forward by NYS Parks in partnership with Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects and Planners, that vision is coming to life. A naturalized promenade now connects people to the shoreline, restored native plant communities nurture ecological renewal, and improved pedestrian and bicycle pathways invite visitors to explore and experience the park more fully.

Every milestone reflects our commitment to our core values of owning our results and empowering our teams – driving meaningful enduring impact that strengthens both people and place.

We’re proud to play a role in the enduring stewardship of New York’s public landscapes—where thoughtful design, collaboration, and commitment come together to make a lasting difference.

This past quarter, Fisher Associates’ Community Impact Committee put our passion into action by addressing both food insecurity and environmental stewardship in the communities we call home.

In Buffalo, our team partnered with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve to protect local ecosystems. Volunteers removed invasive species such as Stilt Grass and Phragmites, helping restore balance and preserve the health of this important natural resource.

In Pennsylvania, we joined the United Way’s Day of Caring at City Mission in Washington, PA. Our team served lunch to individuals experiencing homelessness and the broader community, while also deep-cleaning chapel chairs used daily for classes and events. Their efforts supported City Mission’s commitment to provide shelter, meals, and essential care for neighbors in need.

At Fisher, we believe our greatest impact goes beyond the projects we design – it lies in creating a lasting legacy of improved quality of life. By giving back to our communities, we not only strengthen the places where we live and work, but also reaffirm our commitment to building a better tomorrow.
