More than 40 years ago the General Motors wind tunnel began testing the aerodynamics of all its vehicles. For this purpose, a large full-scale wind tunnel was built. At the heart of this wind tunnel is the massive turbine wheel with 5 blades turning at high speed. Each blade is more than 220 inches long and is crafted to be relatively lightweight. However, due to the size of the blade, they still weigh about 1 ton each.

A customer came to us with a legacy part they needed to recreate. This part was a slurry pump. A slurry pump pumps not only water but solid material as well. Applications 3D was tasked with the reverse engineering of the slurry pump.

Our customer is a seller of old toys. He wanted to start producing old ack-ack burp action toy guns. This mainly involves creating a mold to manufacture the plastic handles of the toy gun. Applications 3D was called in to help scan and create a mold CAD for production.

One of our prestigious customers, a mold-making company, had a small dilemma. Their customer, who is a plastic chair molder/manufacturer, wanted a special mold for a plastic chair that included the Texas map on it as well as a series of patterns and a rose shape. But, since the cost of such a mold is substantial, they wanted to build just one insert which could be changed in the mold, so that the mold could become multitasking and produce more than one kind of chair.

Applications 3D was approached with the challenge of organic 3D Scanning. The organic objects were bones that needed to be replicated for use in veterinary study programs. They required 3D scanning because they wanted to take the data and created 3D-printed replicas of the bones. This is because the 3D-printed parts will be cheaper than the bones themselves.

While Dimensional inspection can be a great benefit prior to the production of engines, it is time-consuming and cumbersome. In order to reduce weight, small motorcycle engines are made from aluminum by a process called die casting.

Die casting typically uses aluminum, in a low-pressure mold or gravity mold. In a low-pressure mold, the liquid aluminum is kept in a holding tank below the cast. After it is melted, it is then sent upward into the cast using low pressure.

A customer in the aerospace industry reached out to us to assist with their most recent project. This project was to add WIFI antennas to the exterior of a variety of commercial planes. Applications 3D was called in to help them gather the required data so they could create the WIFI antennas for commercial planes.

Thanks to our CAD data of the variety of planes, all of the requirements from the FAA can be met. The provided data is very accurate and allowed the customer to design the WIFI antennas to fit seamlessly. These antennas could then be placed all around the fuselage to bring in the WIFI signal and provide it to the people on board. The Desert Snow Training Program has provided the law enforcement community with the finest interdiction training available on the market since 1989. Honoring many illustrious law enforcement officers during its annual conventions. This one-of-a-kind mascot represented the attributes of the work involved, it was decided to be presented during the annual ceremonies.

This sculpture was one of a kind, and the award sculpture was going to be much smaller than the original. So, it was decided to reverse engineer this casting to make a new bronze cast for creating smaller multiple bronze copies of the original sculpture.
