Griesemer Beekeeping LLC

Griesemer Beekeeping LLC We strive to keep you as happy as our bees. Griesemer Beekeeping is a small family owned and operated business.

James Griesemer started Griesemer Beekeeping in 2006 after becoming involved in Beekeeping through his high schools agricultural science program. It was then that he got his first hives, linked with local beekeeper mentors and purchased his first equipment. Now, James and his wife, Christine, are growing the business by increasing the hiveyards and direct marketing the honey to the community, so t

hey can offer education to their customers about beekeeping and their honey products. Griesemer Beekeeping specializes in swarm removal, equipment sales, honey extraction, pollination services and honey sales. We intend to provide education to the community relating to apiculture, benefits of honey, and other related bee topics through presentations and direct marketing of our honey products. We plan to give back to the community through mentoring beginning beekeepers to help them maintain their own hives and educate them on the basics of beekeeping. Griesemer Beekeeping has a wide variety of honey flavors available. Come visit us at griesemerbee.com or message us for more information.

๐Ÿฆ‹ High Tunnel 2026 Season Update ๐Ÿฆ‹

Our Blue Butterfly Peas (Clitoria ternatea) are coming along nicely! Because nighttime temperatures have still been too cold for direct planting, we decided to give them a head start indoors this year.

These seeds took a little extra preparation before planting:
๐ŸŒฑ First, the seeds were stratified
๐Ÿ’ง Then soaked for 24 hours to help improve germination

Now the seedlings are growing well indoors, and weโ€™re hoping to get them transplanted into the high tunnel soon once temperatures cooperate! ๐ŸŒฑ

Itโ€™s always rewarding to watch these unique plants begin their journey. We canโ€™t wait to see the beautiful blue blooms later this season.

๐ŸŒฑ High Tunnel 2026 Season Update ๐ŸŒฑ

Our 2026 seed production season is officially underway in the high tunnel! This year we are growing a unique lineup focused on saving and producing quality seed for future seasons:

๐Ÿซ˜ Phaseolus vulgaris โ€” Fatman Pole Beans
๐Ÿฆ‹ Clitoria ternatea โ€” Blue Butterfly Pea
๐Ÿˆ Cucumis melo โ€” North Carolina Giant Melon
๐Ÿ… Solanum lycopersicum โ€” Big Momma Tomato

The Fatman pole beans have already sprouted and are off to a strong start, while the Big Momma tomatoes have been transplanted into the tunnel and are settling in well. With the warm weather and rapid growth, both crops are already demanding trellis support!

Now comes the race to keep up with them as they climb and stretch toward the season ahead. ๐ŸŒฟ

Weโ€™re excited to share updates throughout the growing season as these plants mature for seed production. Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes looks inside the high tunnel!

Apparently 2026 is the year of the bumblebee around here ๐Ÿ๐Ÿซ

While transplanting some blueberry plants that we started ourselves a few years ago, we discovered another unexpected tenant. Tucked into an old mouse nest was a very active, very protective bumblebee colony buzzing back at us.

Bumblebees commonly use abandoned mouse nests for their homes since the soft material and underground protection make an ideal nesting spot. Since these pollinators are hard at work this time of year, we decided the blueberries can stay right where they are until fall when the colony has likely finished its cycle and moved on.

Sometimes farming plans change a little when nature speaks up.

These native pollinators play an important role in pollinating blueberries and many other crops. Bumblebees are especially effective because they use โ€œbuzz pollination,โ€ vibrating flowers to release pollen more efficiently than many other insects.

For now, the blueberries and bumblebees will just have to be neighbors.

๐Ÿ…๐ŸŒฑ High Tunnel Update! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ…

The tomatoes from our seed blocking experiment are officially making their move to the high tunnel! ๐Ÿ™Œ

What started as tiny seedlings in soil blocks are now healthy, strong plants ready for the next stage of growth. Weโ€™ve been really happy with how well the seed blocking worked this year โ€” strong roots, easy transplanting, and less plastic waste along the way. ๐ŸŒฟ

Now itโ€™s time to get these tomatoes settled into their new home and start dreaming about summer harvests! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ…

We canโ€™t wait to watch the high tunnel fill in over the next few weeks.

๐Ÿ Happy World Bee Day from Griesemer Beekeeping LLC! ๐Ÿฏ

Today we celebrate the tiny pollinators that play a huge role in our world. Bees help pollinate many of the fruits, vegetables, flowers, and crops we depend on every day. Without them, our gardens, farms, and food supply would look very different.

At Griesemer Beekeeping, we are thankful for the opportunity to care for these amazing insects and share the products they help create. From the hive to your home, every jar of honey represents thousands of hardworking bees and the beauty of nature working together.

You can help bees too by:
๐ŸŒผ Planting pollinator-friendly flowers
๐Ÿ’ง Providing fresh water sources
๐Ÿšซ Limiting pesticide use
๐Ÿฏ Supporting local beekeepers

Thank you for supporting local agriculture and helping us protect pollinators for future generations!

๐ŸŒฑ Itโ€™s Rhubarb Season at Griesemer Beekeeping LLC! ๐ŸŒฑ

The rhubarb patch is producing and we are now harvesting our unique green variety rhubarb! Limited quantities are available for $4/lb while supplies last.

Thereโ€™s nothing quite like fresh rhubarb in the spring โ€” perfect for:
๐Ÿฅง pies
๐Ÿง muffins
๐Ÿ“ jams & sauces
๐Ÿฅค refreshing drinks
๐Ÿฐ crisps and cobblers

Rhubarbโ€™s tart flavor pairs especially well with honey and strawberries, making it a favorite for spring baking and cooking. One important note: while the stalks are delicious, the leaves should not be eaten.

Around our farm, we also put those large rhubarb leaves to good use as a natural w**d barrier in garden beds to help suppress w**ds and retain moisture. ๐ŸŒฟ

One of our favorite ways to enjoy rhubarb is in our honey rhubarb muffins! ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿง

๐Ÿฅ” Nature always finds a way! ๐ŸŒฑ

Last year, we apparently missed harvesting a few potatoesโ€ฆ and now those forgotten potatoes have come back strong and are already flowering! ๐ŸŒผ

Itโ€™s a fun reminder that on the farm, very little truly goes to waste. Volunteer plants like these can pop up from overlooked harvests, compost, or dropped seed and often thrive with little help from us.

Potato flowers are also an important signal that tubers are beginning to develop underground. While flowering doesnโ€™t always guarantee potatoes are ready yet, it means the plants are actively growing and storing energy below the soil surface.

Sometimes the best surprises are the ones you didnโ€™t plan for. ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿฅ”
